I am currently in API and will be finishing up on Feb 8th. i'm trying to fly my girlfriend down to corpus the following weekend and was wondering what to expect for the check in. what is the timeline? will i be starting class soon or is there a wait? basically, if she flies in on friday and flies out the following monday(do we get president's day off???), do i need to plan on studying or should i be able to spend time with her? thanks.

If you're Navy, you get like 3 days to get down here. If you're a Marine, you get like a week or something ridiculous like that. You will spend a good portion of the report day (monday) in check-in briefs and you'll hear from all the usual suspects about stuff you've heard 50 times before in addition to the basic welcome aboard briefs, briefs about primary and administrative briefs. After the check-in day at the wing, you will have nothing until you check into the squadron (except medical stuff and perhaps duty- not if you're checking into the squadron that friday).

Have fun with your girlfriend. It will probably be the last time you're free to do nothing for a while.

Wait varies and it all depends, literally, on your check-in time since the guy who makes the class up dates goes in sequential order from the check-in log book. All my classmates from API reported earlier than me so they classed up the week after check-in in VT-28. I, on the other hand since I like to utilize my time off to the very last minute checked-in with another guy from API five hours after everyone else. We are scheduled to class-up two weeks after our check-in date with VT-27. Some guys, depending on how many API sends over class up that week. Monday, at least for the past two classes has been the last day to check-in. Check-in briefs have been taking place on Tuesday. Medical is minor, just some shots and blood work and that will all be done by Friday. You will have a checklist to complete such as Security pass & tag, register for piss test, check-in with house hold goods, ect ect.

But this is probably too much info for your purposes. Bottom-line: you will most likely have a week off if not two. 90% chance of a week, 9% of two weeks, and 1% that you will have no weeks off and jump right into it. Something else that you didn't want to hear probably...you will have watch. It is inescapable unlike stash jobs although they are sometimes hard to dodge. You will either have quarterdeck watch which is a 12 hr shift or CNATRA quarterdeck watch which is a work week consisting of a 6 hr shift from Monday-Friday. If you are unlucky, you will get both watches.

Take your girlfriend to downtown and to the Islands. I would stay away from northern Corpus if you haven't heard that already. Crime is pretty bad up there and there are several areas that Navy personnel are forbidden to visit.

I'm sorry for not addressing the question but asking one instead...Do you really want to bring your girlfriend? Corpus has tons of girlfriends already.

I've seen the women in Corpus and trust me, if yours is decent, by all means, bring her! And I say this as a woman. I had a job offer within mintues of walking in to a Corpus strip club, as did my then-boyfriend's roommate's girlfriend, because the women there are not hawt and even the strip club owner was looking for decent-looking girls. And to that the fact that it seemed to me that many of the local girls, hot or not, are are looking to get a ring or a baby from a pilot. I say again-- import!

As someone who married someone he met in Corpus..

If they are not a BMW and are single.. Beware. I think Corpus is where Texas and Socal send their mental defectives.

If your girlie is ALSO a sundevil, then the smart money says that she'll make every Corpusette look like they have shingles.

...and kids.

I also find it sad that A Pool is now only 1-2 weeks. I spent 4 months jet-skiing the Intracoastal, and drinking like an asshole waiting for Primary to start.

....aahhhhhhhhhh, good times.

Hey guys,
I'm leaving for Corpus on the 6th of june, I've read through the above posts and was just wondering what kind of changes if any have occurred. What is the wait time between wing and squadron, and exactly what does it mean. What buildings should I be on the look out for and is there anything I can do to better prepare for primary. I did pretty well through API, then again all I did was study. Appreciate any help you can offer.

Corpus Update

I checked in 2 weeks ago for advanced, so this is fairly fresh info.

For a primary check in: you'll spend a few hrs Monday getting the scavenger hunt done, then all day Tuesday on the briefs you've heard 1,000,000 times already. Don't make plans for Wed., either. Primary has a wait of around 3 weeks last time I checked.

For Advanced: forget it. Our wait is timed in Months. Find a hobby. I'm taking up surfing.

The only building you really need to know is the Wing building. Start there for your check in and Richard (you will get to know him well) will get you started on all the req. paperwork. I can't remember if he gives you a map or not, but I'm sure some net surfing can yield you one.
