Changes to TA Waiver Approval Process

Good news for those of us taking classes through tuition assistance. I got this from my career counselor.

This e-mail is sent on behalf of CAPT Dewes and Dr R-C. Effective immediately, TA SH limits are being relaxed. Personnel are still required to submit a waiver request to higher authority for anything in excess of 12 SH, however, all requests, up to and including 16 SH, will be positively endorsed.

Pls disseminate to your NCOs ASAP so they can encourage Sailors to submit waivers. Be advised that NCOs cannot approve TA in excess of 12 SH unless the Sailor's waiver has been approved by higher authority.

There will be no NAVADMIN or other public announcement on this. We are relying on you to disseminate this info to the Sailors. Let me know if you have any questions.

I took 7 classes last year and I paid 3 of those classes out of pocket since TA would only approve 4. :doggy_125

Sounds like a great setup for confusion. So when this period of relaxed SH limits ends, no one will know and ultimately, it will be the sailors who get stuck with the bill because....well, there's nothing official (i.e. NAVADMIN). At the very least, this should come out as a P4 to CO's, Commanders, and OIC's.
