Cellphone question: Camera/No Camera

I searched with no luck.
The company I work for is buying me a phone and there are two models of it, one with a phone and one without. I would prefer the one with, but at work (well when I go to other sites at least) we arent allowed to have cameras. The would prefer that I buy the non-camera one I am sure.

Anyways, for the military, are camera phones allowed or no? I realize you won't have a phone most of the time anyways, but when you can have one, are the additional limitations for having a camera on it?

The amount of times that you will be in a secret briefing will be few and far between, at least for your first several years in. After that, usually there's a place you can stash the phone until you're allowed to have it again. That generally is for the entire communication aspect of it, not just the phone. You'll want to have some kind of device to take pictures of yourself on your solos. And no... I don't mean those solos.

I have my cell phone with me pretty much all of the time, and I'm struggling to think of anyone I know who doesnt carry one with them, whether it be on their person ,in uniform, or in a bagpack... No one really cares about whether your phone has a camera or not- if you are in an area that doesnt allow recording devices (SCIF etc) you leave your cell phone outside, wheter it has a camera or not.

Just don't let it ring during a brief, then answer it and have a conversation. This happened when guys were excercising with another country .

If you're in a place that doesn't allow a camera phone, it's probably not going to allow a non-camera phone either. Just get the one you want and leave it outside when you shouldn't be answering it anyway.

Some people are simply amazing. I would always put mine on vibrate (or turn it off) during a formation or brief. If the brief was particularly boring, I would start to discretely (aka holding the phone in my lap) calling my buddies in the squadron to see if they turned theirs off! :D

It's fun to see the same pranks across various squadrons. One favorite past time of ours is for the schmuck that's sitting SDO. When we have quarters, it is his rightful duty to call his buddies that are standing in formation down below in the hanger. Woe to the pilot who failed to turn off his phone!

Got the one with the camera, and I like it a lot. Thanks for all the replies (great info, all).

we'd all take turns calling the O-4's during quarters or any other large group event.
