I'm 20 y/o and would like to rent a car in Norfolk. Anybody know if this is possible or any specific rental companies that would let me? Thanks!

Unless things have changed, MOST car rental companies that I know of won't rent to someone under 25 (unless you're on government orders).

But Enterprise did rent to me when I was 23 or 24, so you might want to give them a call.

A friend of mine tried to rent a car in that area but they said that he had to be 25 or older. I guess you will just have to call around. I know that there is a rent-a-car place right by the airport (ORF) that is open 24 hours.

When I went on vacation last year, I was able to rent a car from Avis and I was only 22 at the time.

I mentioned this a week or so ago, if you're a USAA member you can rent from Avis if you're under 25. You get the same rate as anyone else does I believe.

I rented a car younger than 25 as well, though I did have to pay extra for it. Must've been the insurance. But, I don't know if you'll be able to at 20. There may be a lower limit of 21 at the rental places.

National, Thrifty, Avis, Enterprise(?) and Alamo rent to under 25. Funny thing is, I paid more for the four hour car rental than the four hour flight!!!

It's not because of 'insurance' that they charge you $80 to drive a cheap Chevy, it's to make more money. You could have your own special insurance, or your credit card could cover all damage to the car as long as you pay with it, and they will agree with you but still want $80.

I rented with Avis is Norfolk when I was 23, the under-25 fee was pretty steep as I remember. If it's at all possible for you to get some sort of no-cost orders written up, try that.

I made some phone calls to different cities/car companies and this is what I found out..

For Norfolk, under 21 is a no-go. You can rent in Richmond though if your 18 with government orders and RIC is only 1 1/2 hours away. Thanks for the help!
