Car insurance in Corpus?

We have USAA for our car and motorcycle in Florida. I just called them for a quote to switch over to Corpus, and they told me an astronomical rate: $3700 every six months. We pay $1470 every six months in Florida. What gives? And is Geico worth switching to? They gave me a much better rate, but how is the service and such when it comes down to pay out insurance claims?

I don't know if USAA is the one that give service members a discount, but you might want to call around and get quotes. I don't think geico is really all that cheap. I use geico right now and i am switching to Nationwide next month just because it will cost me about $750 for six months to insure a VW Jetta 99 in VA ( full coverage) as opposed to geico's $950 for 6 months (full coverage), and i will tell you that i don't have points on my license.

I will not tell you otherwise. But your best bet is to tall around and get quotes. Even the local companies might be cheaper.

that's outrageous

when I moved down here (K-rock, almost same) from FL, my rates took a nice drop

of course, you can be like half of the cars down here and be uninsured, hah

The rate hike is due mainly to the extremely high level of vehicular theft and break-ins. My friend had his car broken into and the stereo stolen twice right outside his bedroom window. The first time they broke the window, the second they broke the actual door. I know another guy who had one car stolen and another broken into. Its big in that area for them to steal a car and drive it across the border to resell it.

Corpus is a pit lot of uninsured motorists (illegals) high crime rate etc etc. I stuck with usaa and was glad I did. Friends got cars broken into and USAA took care of them while the ones that switched insurance got low balled.
