Received this just last night though I'd share:

"Hiya Brownshoe!

Sorry for the lack of comms. Dad is not very willing to talk on the
phone much anymore, he feels like it is too hard to communicate due to
the speech impediment from his cancer surgery.

Also, Dad's eyesight is rapidly failing due to macular degeneration, it
is to the point now that he can't functionally use AirWarriors website
anymore. This is a big disappointment to Dad, as he very much enjoyed
the interaction and banter with his fellow Naval Aviation compatriots.
Using the laptop computer is getting too difficult for him, so we are
evaluating other alternatives now (perhaps a computer with a larger
monitor and simpler interface)...we'll see how that works out.

Healthwise Dad is holding his own, the latest checkup from his cancer
Doc was all good news. He still makes a round trip three times daily to
the DFAC ("Dining Facility" - nowadays the military prefers the term
"DFAC" over "chow hall"!!!) under his own power, and only the assistance
of a walker. He's pretty stubborn about maintaining ambulatory
capability so he doesn't have to go to a higher level of care facility,
hopefully he can continue to keep that up.

I read Dad your email tonight, he asked me to reply and give you and all
his AW Pals his best wishes. Slugger the Silver Eagle is still in the
fight...he's just very, very frustrated that his former pilot's visual
acuity has degraded to the point he can't compute much anymore, and even
watching sports on TV is becoming no funfor him. I'll tell you though,
he sure motivates his two sons with his ability to adapt to a crappy
situation and his will to live!

Best regards,
Michael "Max" Magee"

I just spoke with BzB on the phone. He wanted me to say hello to all of you at AW and to wish you all the best.

BzB is in hospice now but is in really good spirits. I am staying in contact with Hughie and his family during this time so I'll keep the forum updated.

Sad news. I just found this on Face Book this morning from BzB's daughter:

"My brave & courageous dad, Hugh Magee, passed away today...he was an adventurer, a traveler, a Brother BDF & had a tender, caring & a very loving heart for all of his large family beneath his beloved Navy Wings...I love you Dad, forever❤"
Rest in peace, Commander. Throw a nickel on the grass....
