bummed: Age Waiver Denied - any advice?

Today I was told nami (nomi?O) did not approve my age waiver. I am 28, going for marine air contract, no prior service. My flight phys was perfect, my pft was 276, my astb was 7/7/7 even though I don't know if that matters. Am I at the end of the road for this? Is there ANY other way? I am so seriously bummed that ANY advice y'all have got can only help. Thanks.
 
I'm sorry to hear about that waiver denial. I'm also "old", I'll be 28 in May and I have an NFO contract. I just graduated from OCS in July. Did they deny your waiver for flight, or for the entire Marine Corps?
 
re-apply! as someone on the board has said before, the squeeky wheel gets the greese. Don't take no for an answer ;)

Guys - give me somewhere solid to start and I'll go for it. When you say dont' take no, give me a place to start. Tell my OSO I wont' take no, make some phonecalls, and if so, to who? Drive to NAMI? I'm pulling things out of the air, but I'll do them if that's what it will take - shout back if you can - I want to do it today. Thanks!!
 
I find out about my application next week, so I can't speak from experience. But I would say talk to your OSO. Tell him that you will do anything and everything necessary to get accepted to OCS. Ask him if you can re-apply for the waiver, and re-submit for the next selection board. And don't let him beat around the bush with ya either :P, which I kinda doubt he will. They have already invested a significant amount of time in you just getting your application processed. If you show that you are unwilling to give up, they would probably be willing to 'go to bat for you' and do everything in their power to get you in.
 
Did your OSO, say he would not resubmit your waiver, because I would ask him to. And if you were only denied a air contract, then go ground and try to pick up an air contract at TBS. When I graduated TBS, a 28 year old got an air contract for his MOS pick and they did not give him any trouble with the waiver. The Marines need pilots so it is not that hard to get a air slot at TBS if you try hard. I would deffinately try again, and if all else fails go ground.

You could go Army Warrant Officer (or regular officer) and fly Apache's. Depends on how much you want to fly, I mean between what kind of commission you want.
 
Thanks for the info, I think I'll stick with the USMC. I have rather enjoyed my dealings with the USMC recruiter compared to my dealings with the other branches of service.

Half of the OCS selection process is seeing how determined and dedicated you are. Find another OSO, get yours to re-submit, just stay on their back about this. Good luck.
 
Don't give up! The naval service prizes MOTIVATION above almost everything else. Reapply through your recruiting team with copies to NAMI and any other offices you want to know. Keep reapplying! At least three times I had to apply and reapply until I was accepted. First to get into AOCS despite my vision (20/100 when the limit was 20/50). Second, to have the BCNR correct my service record after the Navy accidentally discharged me and I had to get back in (I am not making this up -- never underestimate the pitfalls in the Navy records system). Third for a waiver for hay fever after I'd already been an NFO for 17 years. Some *ssh*le LT medical officer at NAMI with too much time on his hands grounded me for -- you guessed it -- having had hay fever all my life.

If you won't push until you get in you may not have the drive to make it through flight training. Good luck.
 
I agree wholeheartedly that the Naval Service values Motivation. I applied 4 times to the Naval Academy before I got in. The admissions board actually took how many applications you put in as a positive. Shows desire and motivation. I say keep applying until Dubya himself tells you to stop applying...
