As Schnugg said, proceed with caution.
Yes Boxing is a part of many military academy and officer training programs as it teaches mental and physical toughness as well as instills a win at all costs instinct that is neccesary.
On the other side its a sport that very regularly involves real physical trauma and damage. Broken and cracked ribs, damage to eye sockets and jaws, and the big whammy concussions all add up to a dangerous guantlet to be running for something that is mearly a hobby. There is good reason you dont see a lot of Old Boxers. This one would be right up there with Rugby and Austrialian Rules Football as sports that the likely hood of a military career ending injury are just to high for most people.
If you wanna get a workout there are many other combative martial art forms that have a much lower chance of injury that you may want to look into. Not saying you cant do it and be fine, hell I used to box but I saw the writing on the wall when I started looking at some of the injurys that were common enough. Now I just stick with MCMAP and Chinese Martial Arts if I want to get my fight on.
