The movie has been all over the news here in Birmingham because several seriously southern, fairly uptight Mountain Brookers were the butt of one of his jokes (the dinner party where he brought a prostitute? That's the one). A couple of them have managed to find the humor, but most of them are teddibly offended that he abused their hospitality.

That scene was priceless. They need to be able to realize they were the subject of a joke. The more they fight it, the more ridiculous they look.

We in Mountain Brook do not understand this concept of a "joke." It must be some kind of Yankee concept you carpetbaggers dragged in following the Waw of Nawth'n Aggression.

Too bad Sacha Baron Cohen is English...

(I've been to Mountain Brook, nice area, buddy of mine grew up there)

Man oh man. Even in Northern Virginia (not to be confused with the rest of Virginia, mind), my pre-school had a plaque dedicated to the brave soldiers who died in the "War of Northern Aggression." Pretty wild.

In the interest of not making this a complete threadjack, I am looking forward to seeing the Borat movie. His in-character appearances on the news lately have been fantastic.

Insane
I saw it and thought it was pretty funny. Pretty disturbing though, and not just the wrestling scene.

Combating TIP training AGAIN?!
I think that Borat should be required viewing for anyone deploying/PCSing to Eastern Europe. :D

If you didnt see him on the Daily Show you have done a your self a disservice.

You think? My impression was that it was pretty weak. It's not as funny when everyone is in on the joke. That's why his schtick works. All IMO, of course.

Yeah, I think this movie has surely scarred my eyes or my brain or both. I think you know what scene I'm talking about.....

Even as female, it was scarring. :censored_

My bf and I had watched so many Borat skits on YouTube (I know, we should've resisted ourselves!), that the movie was funny, but certainly not as funny for some of the first-timers. We watched it Sat afternoon - theater was nearly empty! We wondered what happened to all the Borat fans!!

HBO had an Da Ali G show marathon this weekend (and I think some more tonight and tomorrow). It included plenty more Borat skits as well as Bruno ones. I think our TV stayed on for about 5 hours straight on Sat! I'm thinking that Bruno might be his funniest character yet. I heard he goes to a gun show. If you know anything about this Bruno character, you'll know he's lucky he didn't get killed!

Happy to see that this thread has brought us all together. ;)

I saw it Saturday afternoon and the theatre was slammed. Different places, different audience.

Yep, we figured the same thing. We'll probably go back for a 2nd round, maybe with a flask tucked inside our pocket for more fun times. ;)

Saw Borat last night... was funny as all get out. Though the hotel scene was a little over the top...

Went to go see it last night. Theatre was packed, it was kind of odd for a Monday night.

Anyway, Borat was one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time.

Me and my buds arrived a little early, so we were just sitting in the theatre. As people started coming in, we started to notice the different people coming in. It was one of the most diverse crowds I have ever seen; talking about older men and women in their 60's and 70's, all the way down to kids as young as 14-15. The funny thing is, they all enjoyed it, the entire audience was laughing almost non-stop throughout the movie.

Humiliated frat boys sue over 'Borat' portrayal

"SANTA MONICA, California (AP) -- Two fraternity boys want to make lawsuit against "Borat" over their drunken appearance in the hit movie.

The legal action filed Thursday on their behalf claims they were duped into appearing in the spoof documentary "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," in which they made racist and sexist comments on camera.

The young men "engaged in behavior that they otherwise would not have engaged in," the lawsuit says."
