Boot knives

I carry a small folding Gerber, can't remember the model, but its half serrated half smooth blade. Can be had for about ~30$ at any Cabelas/Bass pro/etc.. Perfect fit in the flight suit sleeve pocket, should be plenty of knife for anything you need. While in the jet VT's, one of the senior wing IP's flew with a no shit miniature machete with at least a foot long blade strapped into his vest, I'm guessing for gutting a javelina if he ever punched out over S TX and was in need of a meal for the night.

The old HT vests had a no shit 6inch survival knife in them. Much fun in the ready room. But those went away.

To the OP, think small on the knife. I carry a small folding blade in the thigh, uh, whatever the hell that pocket is called. Leathermans/Gerbers are also popular.

I don't plan on ninja'n nobody that don't need ninja'n. Just looking for something small and flat enough to go under a g suit. Maybe I'll make something.

What's wrong with the blades in your vest? I added a small folding woodsaw to my standard issue, but I see no reason to add another knife.

Most non-deployed dudes don't wear a vest on a regular basis, unless they need to for climate reasons (Misawa, Eilson AK).

Well...That just opens up a whole other discussion, doesn't it? What about signaling devices and a radio? What about a first aid kit? Are they all in your seatpan or do you just stash them all in your pockets?

I often considered carrying a potent Stink Bomb!

Not quite lethal, but it would keep those Gomers away at a distance for a time without riddling me with 7.62x39s.

Seriously, I gave my brother-in-law who is 71 years old, a small boot knife as a stocking stuffer this Christmas. I did it half in jest, and half for real. He loved it! (But he walks in a badass part of town, too.) :)

Beacon and mirror are in the harness, everything else is in the seat kit. At Misawa we wore vests with neoprene gloves, hats, and other cold weather/water survival stuff. Deployed ops are a different story.
