I was selected for SNA under BDCP and have an OCS date of sep 6 '03. I plan on pursuing jets but I was wondering if someone could answer this question for me. If I get jets I would really love to try and become a blue angel, does anyone out there know what road you have to take to become part of the blue angel team. I have heard some things but I really dont know if they are true. thanks in advance

Short term goals for sure...However, you must be a Hornet driver. Once you get that far, I would imagine it falls into the "black magic" hands of officer detailers, but like everything in the Navy I'm sure it involves submitting a package with strong CO recommendation.

I stand corrected. Here's the website with the application procedures:
http://www.navy.com/jsp/explore/comunity/blueangels/index.jsp?cid=28&pid=2
They do have a specific part in there that says they'll send you TAD to VFA-106 for replacement training if you aren't F/A-18 NATOPS qualified. They say it takes about 5 weeks.

You have to apply then go through their interview process from what I've heard. Any Tactical guy with at least one Carrier Cruise under thier belt and so many hours/traps is all that is required. I would say some recommendations wouldnt help for any political position!...If you think its not a Politics thing your dead wrong thats for sure!!! The team members are the ones who actually pick (recommend) to CNATra for the Three spots each year. ...............But dude!.......OCS....API......Primary.....etc. Short term focus leads to Long term Goals!

I think there is nothing wrong with aiming high. Set your goals and do your best to achieve them. I went to NROTC with a current Blue Angel, Todd Abrahamson. I don't ever recall him saying he wanted to be a Blue but he's there and good on him. I really believe a lot of it boils down to timing. Timing is everything in the Navy. I've always had lousy timing but you learn to live with it and do the best you can. Good luck in your journey.

I don't know. Last time I spoke with Todd was during API, back in 93 I believe.
