Blue Angels in Salinas, CA

what percent of RL officers get jets?
So I'm going to go support the Blues in Salinas, CA on September 29th. I bought me and my friends the "Flight Deck Club" tickets which cost $55 bucks a piece... will that give us a good view? I hope so because this is our first time going to see the Blues and we're driving 400 miles to go see them. I think it also includes food and drinks... the seating better be worth the money. any comments?

The seating will probably be decent. Probably like a chalet type thing with bleachers. At least you got unlimited food/drinks since the vendors rip your ass off at a show. As far the view goes, Probably not much different than bringing your own chairs and getting there early. I'd rather sit at the front of the general seating than pay the cash for the Chalet area but that's me.

I'm sure it'll be grand regardless.

I've never been able to get down to this show, but I'll bet you made a good choice. I doubt your view will be that much better, but the whole "chalet environment" is definitely the way to go. As already mentioned, you'd be spending some $$ on food and drink anyways. Might as well get some shade, table and chairs with it. Plus, you'll possibly meet some interesting folks.
Salinas is/was Sean D. Tucker's home (he's moved the school to King City), so there's some potential fun there.

Also, Light Sport Airplanes West is located at Salinas. If you get up there on Friday, go look at their offerings. Kind of like an Auto Mall for Light Sport Aircraft. http://lightsportairplaneswest.com/ContactUs.htm

If you are staying in that area, I'd highly recommend heading over to Monterey (15 minutes west), Salinas is not well known for it's social environment. There will be ample opportunity, however, to pick lettuce, smell rotting broccoli and get involved in gang fights. All after the show, of course.

I second the Monterey recommendation. I drove through Salinas and stopped in Monterey overnight. Had some pretty amazing sushi and there's tons to do down there. Salinas...not so much. I'm surprised the Blues are stopping there.

GOOB! how are you doing sir! awww man, I didn't even know that I had to buy tickets for the blues (for some reason, I thought it was free) but as soon as I found out you needed tickets, I panicked and had my friend buy tickets for us. Yea that was stupid of me to not ask you, oh well, hopefully I am supporting the Navy by paying for the tix. It'll be a good time regardless. It'd be nice to drop by and golf with you but I'm only going to be there on saturday and going to head back to LA sunday morning. I'll for sure be coming up here and there so I'll give you more chances to kick my ass on the golf course :D If/When I save enough to blow $425 for green fees, we should play at pebble beach... I heard that's one place every golfer should place once in their lifetime.

I did my PRT last wednesday and so they sent everything off and my recruiter said that I should hear back sometime soon (between couple weeks to a month or so). He's pretty confident that I'll get final select... I only have a little more to wait and I'm definitely enjoying my time off so I'm sure time will go by fast. I'll keep you updated.

Thanks everyone for your two cents. I've actually been to monterey plenty of times (used to take the ladies there while I was in college in the bay area, especially to the 17 miles drive during sunset ;) ). The garlic clam chowder at the wharf is unreal. But of course, garlic breath and ladies, not a good idea :icon_smil

At military bases (AFB,NAS,MCAS, AAF I guess) entree is free. If they got a little chalet or bleacher thing going on you gotta pay for that. However, At civilian airports (Not sure if ANGB's at Int'l/Reg Airports are free when they hold a show; Doubt it) you gotta buy tickets (Which are slowly becoming terribly overpriced. Blame all the different insurances show sites must have now).

Blues have been to many California International Airshows. I remember when they took off and landed at Monterey because the Salinas runway didn't meet their needs.

And I third that Monterey recommendation, just remember to swing by In-N-Out in Salinas as that's the only one on the Central Coast.
