Bah! It's whole-belly or nothin'! I'd give my right arm for some nice, fried, Ipswich clams right about now....

Oh my god, me too. They don't have clams down here! It's so painful.

If anyone knows of any good seafood rest. here in the Norfolk area please let me know. Looking for good fried seafood. I know this area hasn't been talked about, but I really want a great rest.
Thanks,
Anne

We like Capt. George's in Va Beach on Laskin Rd. It's a buffet but....it's HUGE with great food.

Ok, I first ate clam strips when Howard Johnson's had restaurants. I'd get their fried clam strip sandwich/rolls. I then had some at Gene's seafood in Jax. and their seafood was incredible. Good gator tail too. The thing I'm wondering is I've never heard about whole belly or not. Should I ask or just stay oblivious?

Oh, for those of you in jax....Gene's seafood is off of Beach's. It's really good.

Well, with whole bellies they use the entire clam. So you get their stomach, which is often filled with, er, stuff. With clam strips, I think they just use the fleshy parts around the belly. Whole bellies are pretty much an acquired taste, I think, and mostly found in New England and the Northeast. When done poorly they can definitely make you barf (I've gotten a couple of batches that were less-than-stellar) but when made properly, they're a little piece of mollusk heaven.

Now, here's my question: gator tail? Actual alligator tail? What does it taste like?

Greasy chicken and pork. It's pretty good.

I crave fresh Maine lobster.

Hey shortncurly,

I'll go with fly navy on that. It's really good. he may not have been serious, but that's about right. You've gotta try it.
Thanks for clearing up the whole belly thing. I'll stick with the strips I think.

I was serious. I"ve had gator, it's good stuff.

What say you all about barbeque? Me, I like good pork barbecue. Shred some up, put it on a bun with some cole slaw, and serve it with a side of fries with some sweet tea. I know a few great places in and around Concord and Mount Pleasant, North Carolina if y'all are interested.
Also, thought I'd weigh in on the whole seafood debate. Me, I like Southern seafood. It's all about popcorn shrimp, fried clams, and plenty of hush puppies. There's a great chain in North Carolina called the Mayflower. I think they got some in VA and SC too, but I'm not sure.

Pulled pork with either a vinegar base or mustard base sauce. That, brisket, and pork shoulder are my favorites.

Seafood? If I'm in the mood for something cheap, fried shrimp, scallops, and clam strips are great. If I want something better? Hmm, I like fancy seafood restaurants where the food looks and tastes like art. My god, nothing like scallops wrapped in bacon.... or seared ahi... oh goodie. I also am a New Englander... lobster is not a fancy meal. It's something to tear apart with your hands. :)

Oh no you didn't just start a thread about barbeque. Thats opening one serious can of worms. Being from Texas, the only kind of BBQ I recognize is beef, you can't beat good brisket. Best thing in the world.

Your lobster eating habits sound a lot like mine with crab legs. Ad butter, maybe a hint of lemon, and you got good eating there. Ever had grilled shark? It's pretty good. :)

I like beef barbecue, too. Especially ribs :D
