Just got my road bike down here and I'm trying to find the best (safest) roads to ride in the area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From my own experience, the best cycling in Pensacola is with a pretty girl on the way to lunch downtown. To those who say there are no worthwhile females in this town....I don't know where you're looking, but stay there.

What bikes are you all riding.
Any carbon fiber rider here? They are light and the look cool but are they worth the extra grand? How much did you drop for it?
I am looking at getting a new one pretty soon.

I ride a Trek 5200 OCLV (carbon). I think they're worth it. Going from aluminum and steel bikes to carbon was unbelievable. The weight difference was very noticeable, but what impressed me most was the difference in stiffness. I was skeptical when riders told me that metal bikes "flex", but I believed them the instant I threw a leg over a carbon ride. It feels like 100% of your power is going to the road. Unreal.

That being said, I wouldn't go out and buy a new carbon road bike. It isn't worth the money. Look used. I bought my 96 Trek used back in 2000 for around $1000, way under the $2500-3000 or so new price. All it needed was a little tweaking to fit me, and a little tune up and it hasn't let me down since. Even at 12 years old, it still rides like new. AND I have ridden newer rides and, to be honest, I can't really feel a difference in frame/ride quality. Personally, I'd buy an older carbon bike and simply upgrade the components.

I used to ride a scott cr1, with the campy package, and what a difference. However I think campy made more difference then the carbon frame did.
