Best place to go at Andesen is the Commisary deli, they make great sandwiches.

Royal Omani Air Force US Navy Messing Facility. "Would you like me to spit in this some more?" God help the hapless LTJG who has to buy food for a 10 hour burner for his entire crew in this "moonbase-alpha" crotch of the world. MINIMAL english. You order pancakes and get simple sugar syrup with them (granular sugar melted into water). Anything with cheese contains cheese made from the milk of any animal BUT a cow. Beef? Dream on, thats Camel baby! All time worst: "BBQ Chiksen sambwich" (actual spelling) featuring every joint, bit of skin, and fat from a chicken, sans any actual edible meat, in ketchup. MMMMMM. (Really good ice cream in the desert though, WEIRD).

We did a CVW-9 det to Masirah in 1995 and being hosted by the Hawk squadron, the only place we ate was the O'Club. Pretty good as I remember it (steak every night). All our meals were paid for by the embassy, our only expense was the nightly beer. It was kinda fun to be getting a better per-diem experience than the P-3 guys stuck there.

Pacos, Texas. PO-DUNK! Man this place is like driving up to a gas station in a bad horror movie set in the desert. The field is small, so you can only land there in a T-34 and maybe a 44. They've got these awesome STEAK, home made burritos...for free! and also the usual assortment of pop. I cannot stress how awesome these burritios are. One of these could choke a donkey. There are patches and stickers from all kinds of squadrons in that office. Along with pleanty of pubs left behind by students over the years (like me). The staff is great.

Yeah, the O Club there is really nice. Unfortuantely we had to eat at the "US Navy Messing Facility", the place with all these lovely dishes the Webmaster and I mentioned. Apparently, the O Club used to be open to all, but in the late 90s "someone" (my guess being the Omani General) decided to make it Omani officers only, and all visiting forces had to eat at another "facility". They did allow the British contractors who work on the Hawks to eat there, and those guys (who way way cool) could bring us as guests.
