What are you planning to do with it? I mean is it gonna be a serious carry piece, or just a part of a collection to plink with.

save a little longer and get it in a .40 or .45....

EDIT:
I was looking at that page and the MSRP is $425??? dude if thats the case, save another 50-75 bucks and buy a sprinfield 1911 or a beretta model 96, or heck pick up a glock 9mm.

If you have a chance to get to a gun show anytime soon, you can definitely pick up a 40 or 45 for that much. i've seen some CPO sigs for around $400.

If the price is however much less than that, disregard anything you have read here.

Save a little longer and buy a pistol that's worth a shit. Don't buy junk unless you have to...and with a firearm, you never have to.

EDIT: Junk may be too strong a word. I strongly believe however, especially with handguns, that there are no "bargains". Bersa doesn't magically own some uber cheap source of quality steel...that price point comes from somewhere. Don't scrimp here.

I love this arguement/statement, what the hell for? A 9mm with the high quality JHPs that are out there will do the job just as well. If he was using FMJ, then you'd have an arguement.

I like this approach. If you are going to spend in the 400-500 range, go with a high quality used pistol. My first pistol was a used P229 that I found in great shape. You can find many a used glock out there for ~400 as well. Some of the new S&W M&Ps can be had in that range, as well as Ruger's new 9mm full size pistol.

I also like Schnugg's suggestion if you're looking for a small piece. Ruger stands by their products.

Due to the government,I feel over-stimulated.
Thanks for the input...
I'm just looking for something to plink with and keep my hand warm with until I have the time/resources to get serious about shooting. I am in P-cola right now, but could very well end up getting stationed in a "no guns" state like NJ/MA after flight school, so I don't want to get too deep into it right now.
Thanks again!

.

Consider a Ruger MkII or III...much cheaper to shoot alot when you get the opportunity. Probably can pick one up used for right in the ballpark of what you are looking at.

To echo that, I bought a brand new Browning Buckmark (.22lr) this summer for $270 out the door. Good deals to be had out there.

But if you're still looking into a more serious caliber in that range...used Glock, Ruger etc.

MA you can bring most everything in. The mags are their sticking point like CA.

You will probably need a LTC-B to have anything "fun". LTC-A is their concealed carry license.

That whole "all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others" mentality.
