Hi everyone,

Well this is my first post on this forum. I have found tremendous resources on this forum, but I have had a hard time finding an answer to one of my (many) burning questions.

Can I become an officer in the US Navy with a foreign bachelor's degree? I am and always have been a US citizen, but I studied at Sciences Po university in France. English is my native language.

Thanks!

Did you ask your recruiter? What did they say?

Sciences Po
Nice work! I don't know any of the details on getting it accepted, but I do know several officers with degrees from foreign universities, so it's definitely a thing. Presumably, there's some kind of vetting done, but I would think that Sciences Po would be a no-brainer.

I have a degree from a foreign university and I was in your shoes a bit over 6 years ago. My recruiter initially told me it was a no-go and that I had to enlist so I hung up the phone on him.. The next day he called me back and said he did some research and it was ok provided an education specialist took a look at my transcripts and ensured it was equivalent to a 4-year degree from a US College. All of that was done at the recruiting office where he worked without any issues. Everything worked out and I've been in the Navy for almost 6 years now.

I would double check with your recruiter and make sure nothing has changed. Don't let him talk you into something you don't want. I'm pretty sure things are still the same. Just be aware that the process may be a bit longer but in the end it should all work out. Send me a private text if you have any more questions.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! I am actually working with an officer recruiter, but for entering PA school as a medical officer. I am just wondering if I could still qualify to be at least some kind of officer with my degree.
