Spiderwoman,
Like the other guy was saying figure out where the plane is headed and that should really eliminate the answers. Second, just think of that one instrument inside the airplane with the horizontal ball in there and imagine what it would feel like to be in the cockpit. Then just relate it to the picture outside of the airplane. It should be fairly easy, its just those drawings are pretty inaccurate..it would be alot better with actual pictures.

I am wondering where I can get information to study for the math/mechanical parts of the exam. I am a 21 year old college junior and I took the exam and I haven't done alot of that stuff since h.s. What do you rec?

Thanks for the tips on the spatial section! When I went to take it the first time, I assumed it would look the same as the one in the ARCO book, so imagine my suprise when their were no clouds to use as a reference point!

Also, did anyone get the test form where the math section was mostly word problems? If so, what kind of graphs were on it (ie: slope, midpoint, distance etc)? Thanks!

To those of you that took the ASTB twice, did you get the same test? Or was the second test pretty close? Or is it completely different? I read a lot of the questions being discussed and I got the same test. I'm wondering what my odds are of seeing the same test. The board has come back and told me they will give me a slot if I take the test AGAIN, pass everything AGAIN, but this time get an 8 or a 9 on the aviation, instead of the lousy 5 that I got the first time.

There are two versions of the ASTB test, Version A which you are taking the first time and Version B for the second trial. Both versions are very similar to the Marines Study Guide.

I got question for you. I thought you're not suppose to take the test for the pure reason to improve the score. At least that what I was a told by my recruiter. Is he full of BS?

I passed everything first try. My recruiter came back to me after getting initially rejected and told me that if I take the test again and get an 8 on the aviation and pass everything else that the board has said it will select me. I am thinking that I want to see this for sure before I jeapordize passing scores.

I think my OAR is a 50 with an aviation score of 5. Since I took that I have done everything for my pilot's license except the checkride (take that Friday) so I feel I would do fine on the aviation portion, but I haven't looked at the math and stuff since March when I took the ASTB. Just not sure I want to risk passing scores.

not sure, my recruiter just told me that they said they would consider applicants for 04 slots if they had an aviation score of 8 or better. I currently have a 5 which is above that which is necessary.

I know that for me the three scores that count are the PFAR, the PBI, and the AQR. The PFAR counts for 20% of my application and the PBI and AQR count for 10% each. I would assume that the weighting of the scores would be similar for civilians.
