Hello everyone. My name is Cameron Tucker I am a sophomore at Delaware State University and major in aviation. I currently have my private pilot's license and am about to take my check ride for instrument. I am also a Cadet Captain and a pilot with the Civil Air Patrol. I took the ASTB earlier this year and got decent scores and just wanted to know my chances for getting selected as a pilot. I also was curious about the pay and how competitive the boards are looking for the summer of 2026.

First and foremost, welcome to the forum. Second, please take the time to browse the various threads and posts. BDCP in particular has been asked and answered here. Third, if you haven't already, find + speak to a local officer recruiter to get more into the weeds of eligibility and once you're ready, where you stack.

Lastly, any follow on questions or anything recruiting, aviation, or Navy-related, use the search function first. Odds are it's been asked and answered before.

Your question is hard to answer with the limited and generic stats you've provided.

1. Decent scores. According to who? A specific number is better. Did you get 9/9/9? 6/6/6? 5/5/5?
2. Your degree: Aviation. YAY! Aviation what? Aviation Management? Professional Pilot? Professional Helicopter Pilot?
3. GPA: You didn't mention your GPA...2.0? 3.0? 4.0? GPA matters.
4. Pay? Here's what GOOGLE says:

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • Pay and Allowances:
BDCP participants receive the pay and allowances of an OCPO3 (E-4), which includes base pay and potentially additional allowances depending on location and other factors.

  • Monthly Stipend:
The monthly stipend starts at $2,735 and can increase up to $3,111 if the participant refers someone who becomes a Naval Officer or makes the Dean's List.

  • Benefits:
Participants also receive full medical and dental benefits during the program and accrue time in service while in college.

  • Advancement:
They can also be meritoriously advanced to higher paygrades through various means, including making the Dean's List.

  • Commissioning:
Upon graduation, they will be commissioned as officers in the Navy, with the possibility of earning more than those who commission through other programs even on the same day.

  • Tuition:
While the BDCP provides pay and allowances, participants are responsible for paying their own tuition, books, and other school-related expenses.
