Hello, I am about to be a recent college graduate and am strongly considering joining the Navy as a Student Naval Aviator. I was just wondering if there are alot of opportunities to play baseball on bases or on carriers? Unlike basketball where there are pickup games everywhere, in baseball are there any organized tournaments for officers/enlisted? What are they like: just pickup or are they elaborated tournaments with uniforms and trophies? I'm sure it just depends on where you get stationed, right? Like I'm sure they don't have time to play baseball at OCS? Or do people in the military play intermural sports everywhere? I love the game and live for the competition, it would break my heart to follow my dream of being a pilot and have to give up playing baseball.

We played rugby/ touch football a few times but it was mainly in A school. It was a bit harder to get that many people all together at the same time that wanted to play in my squadron.

Not to come off like a total jock,
but in both tom cruise navy movies you see him playing volleyball in topgun...and playing softball/baseball in a few good men...its not like that in real life?,
i mean the gym is great for physical fitness...but theyre aint no better bonding experience than playing on a sports team together

Volleyball? Did I see volleyball up there?
My uncle was in the Navy for 8 years and he said that sometime they would play some sports on the carrier but I never heard of volleyball- would be kinda hard not to lose the ball off the side of the deck. I guess you could play in the Hangar though.
I know the armed forces have like an all-star team for volleyball and they play in a huge tournament every year but I'm not sure whether or not officers are allowed to play. There is a guy I have now on my school team that was prior enlisted army and played on their team and they have won the tournament for like the past two years. If officers can play and I have the time allowed I think that the Navy would start winning again.

Baseball, football (flag) but tackle was 8 man football, vball, softball, bowling, sailing, track and field, skeet shooting and Rugby. All depends on where you are based and facilities available. One of my good friends was Captain of the DoD Rugby team. He travelled everywhere but unfortunately, we had a CO that resented him for it. Judged him poorly on his fitreps. You will find lots of team sports. When I left Kingsville, we had just finished building a real nice roller hockey rink. Those games were a blast. Good time for an SNA to beat up on an IP. I almost forgot, when I was at Cherry Point we had a real nice mountain bike trail and a Fantastic Golf course. Frumby
