This guy flew the T-LC Lawn Chair from Oregon to Idaho...What a stud!

45 Gallons of Red Kool-Aid for ballast was the best part of the whole story.:D

Great find, that's awesome!

On a tragic note, the Balloon Pilot wings have been stolen from the NA museum.

Some other guy like this built a similiar rig...but no kool aid ballast. Instead, he had his trusty pellet gun to shoot out the balloons. He became infamous for flying through the LAX approach corridor....and startled some of the airline drivers. Evidently, there are ATC recordings somewhere with the pilots report seeing a guy flying in a lawnchair at 15K!!

They said this guy had the trusty Red Rider, as well as a blow gun. Apparently most of central Oregon and western Idaho must be class G.

Sounds like he covered himself pretty well... 3 ways to handle balloons, parachute, GPS... Navy should use him to train their future airship squadrons :icon_glas

Yea there was actually a Mythbusters episode on that story. They used a bunch of old weather balloons and achieved lift off.

Combating TIP training AGAIN?!
My thoughts are this guy is just an attention whore of the worst degree. I know the guy had sponsors, but he has no doubt spent thousands out of his own pocket on these flights.

"Things just look different from up there. You're moving so slowly. The best thing is the peace, the serenity."

O really douchebag? The peace and serenity you say? Then why would you spend all that cash on a throwaway rig when you can buy reusable hot air balloons all day for well under $5,000? Because you won't make the news you shameless attention whore. :)
