Aviation for the masses?

Trainwreck

Got a little captain in ya?
"the A5 comes with a bevy of safety features. Included will be a propeller guard, wing angle of attack indicator (sounds important)".......Important??? Nah, that's just another cool shiny gauge that doesn't mean anything, g'head this things TOTALLY just like your Geo Metro.

Perhaps Darwinism will work yet...

Also, gives new meaning to the phrase, "If a$$holes could fly, this place would be an airport."

You know, general aviation hasn't had AOA gauges for ages. Somehow they still manage to keep in the air. I can understand the writer making fun of the publicity prose.

Aside from the price tag, no way will flying something like that ever become "mainstream." People have enough trouble dealing with cars, which only involve two dimensions. And unless the parachute button is like this, not many will use it. People are that stupid, especially while panicking.

I am never going to understand those Easy Buttons.

Do people actually sit at their desks and pronounce to the world how easy their job is all day with a little click?

It's like virtual masturbation... :sleep_125

I still don't understand the appeal of this aircraft.

In my experience (teaching at a flight school with an LSA) LSAs are just little airplanes. The Flight Design CT that we have is not easy to fly, it is very light and as a result not all that stable, has a narrow gear base and an odd sight picture. I worry the Light Sport regulations are a recipe for disaster.

The thing with light sports is that anyone who's into flying enough to plunk down $100K + for a toy is probably enough into it to get a few more lessons and get a real license.

The instrument panel on that thing looks like a car's--that bugs me.

First that Lambo that's supposed to look like an airplane, then this plane that looks like a Yaris...

Less rope to hang yourself with, if you stay within the boundaries of operation for LSA, and also dudes with medical issues may be restricted to LSA or ultralights.

The problem with this is that as the regulations stand right now if you have ever had a medical revoked or denied you cannot use the drivers license as a medical for light sport. However if you haven't had a medical denied or revoked you are fine using the drivers license instead of a medical for light sport. All this really does is to incourage people to be dishonest. If you know you are going to fail your medical just don't go and you're fine but if you go and consult an AME about it you can't fly.

Oh so true. Old guy at the local FBO has heinous diabetes AND a seizure disorder. Lied his way through medicals to keep his PPL for years, then he finally got so bad that he knew he wouldn't pass next time around. Soooo. . .he became a sport pilot and bought a Kitfox. A few months later, he had an 'episode' in the plane and was lucky to walk away from it. So was they guy on the taxiway he landed on.

LSA was designed to get more people flying for less initially monetary outlay. The theory being they would get hooked, the $$$ injection would save GA, and later they would upgrade to PPL. Hasn't been the case.

Seems to just put a few more dangerous "pilots" in the air.

Thats one heck of a short landing. The girl in yellow is probably scared and doesn't want to get back in the plane....seriously coax her in man. Wait is that Katie Holmes...this one is going to be a dud.
