I just took the test yesterday. I am applying for NFO. I was told by my OSO if I got 5 more correct on the Math/Verbal I would have passed. Needless to say I am very disappointed. I used the ARCO book but I am unfamilar with the Marine Guide. Where do I get one? Also, the Arco sample test had 17 verbal questions, my test only had 9 verbal questions. Is Arco wrong or do the actual tests vary in the number of verbal questions?
Does anyone have tips for doing the math test quickly and accurately?
I went out and bought some math prep books and plan on passing in 30 days.
 
BTW the new edition of the Arco book comes out 9/23. I ve got mine ordered and I'll post a review when it get it. I only hope it is better than the last version. I mean the errors, lack of more thorough information and what not. It would be nice if a group like Princeton Review or Kaplan could put out a similar book. Arco could especially do better in the aviation/nautical info section. I mean I memorized all the facts from all the tests, Army and Air Force included, and it only helped me on 2 actual test questions. I did ok on this section but would love to gain more knowledge. Any ideas?

Here is the Link for the Marine Study Guide. HTTP://www.geocities.com/seadog138 promise you this is what you need to study. The Arco book isn't good for anything except the Spatial Test. The Aviation/Nautical Info on this study guide is almost identical to the actual test, and a lot of the Mechanical and Math are the same or very similar. Some more very helpful study material as mentioned before on this web site is the Spatial Relations and Mechanical Study Guide by ARCO and How to solve word problems in Algebra by Mildred Johnson and Tim Johnson. If you study all of this and know it well enough to explain it, I can promise you, you will do very well on the actual test.
 
I looked at this study guide and I wish I would have had that when I was studying. I passed fine but that study guide would have helped a lot. From my experience, some of the questions in the study guide are directly reflected in the test itself and the aviation/nautical portion goes way more in-depth than the actual test does. That's a great thing to use for those who still need to take the test.
 
JF your oso should give you some study guides as mine did. They help far beyond the arco study guides sold at barnes and nobels.

The only thing recommended to me by my OSO was ARCO. I came across the Marine Study Guide through this website. Is that what your OSO gave you?

My oso gave me a printed study guide that was a printed version of the allstar website. Also, a prior made a study guide that she gave the oso...the oso gave it to the candidates. This study guide is what helped most. The questions were very similar to the ones in the test. ARCO didn't help much.
