Is this true? I mean he's a crew chief, so he knows a lot more than me, but I mean it just doesn't make sense to me for the company that is building the plane, being founded by a guy who was a military pilot himself I believe, to build a plane that no one will be able to afford. I am sure they are in it to make a profit.

What about flight time itself? The number of hours put on the airframe daily/weekly/etc, would be a lot higher for a military jet than a civilian version, which I would think also makes a huge difference in the maintenance reqs.

Doubtful, these rich guys are going to do what, take it for a sping on a weekend. Cross country a few times a year. There is no way they could keep up with the punishment a sqadron puts on their jets.
