Very cool. I can still remember watching Neil Armstrong hop down off the LM ladder during Apollo 11 when I was a kid. Thanks for the pictures.

I'm on the LAMPS det on IKE's shotgun cruiser, and it was a huge honor to meet those guys when they came over. We got Jim Lovell and Gene Cernan and those guys loved talking to us. They are all truly legends, and it was awesome that we got the opportunity to meet them as brief as it was. Of course they were all about talking to some fellow brownshoes rather than all the SWO daddy's gathered around and we were able to get a couple good pics of all the pilots with each one of them. One of our aircrewmen got them both to autograph our spare helmet which will become quite the collector's item.
when Gene Cernan was on our boat (the shotgun cruiser) he said quote " there are lots of people in the current generations that are too risk averse; to make it to the moon we had to BOLD, and there's not enough of that these days". Both of those guys were awesome, and more than willing to talk for hours. You should have seen the shoes licking their chops to try to get these guys moving along to stay on schedule. They called flight quarters while the astronauts were still talking to the wardroom, prior to even talking to all the sailors on the mess decks, and one of the tour handlers asked, in a very concerned voice, if they should start heading to the hangar and our Air Boss said "don't worry, I'm pretty sure they'll wait."

Kind of off topic, but this thread makes me realize how much aviation has come out of Ohio.
Armstrong is from Ohio and currently lives about 15 miles from my house. He was also a professor at the University of Cincinnati.
John Glenn is from Cambridge, OH.
Paul Tibbets resided in Ohio later in his life and also went to UC for a short period.
And the men who started it all... The Wright Brothers are from Dayton, OH.
