Use the seach function. But here's something to get you started.


The Arco books are definitely going to be you #1 source for study. Buy as many editions as you can find and study up. Take a practice test every few days, studying in between. After you take the practice tests, go back over all of the stuff you missed and work it until you know what you did wrong and can do it the next time around. Then, go on to the next test.

*When you are taking these practice tests, follow the time limits that are posted on the tests for each section. It helps you get a feel for what the real thing will be like.

If you have a pretty strong aviation background or general knowledge, there isn't any need to spend a lot of time studying that. By a strong background, I mean you are a private pilot, know all the military aircraft and their jobs. If you are new to aviation, study the basics such as the forces of flight, the parts of an airplane and what they do.

As far as nautical info, I don't know a lick about boats. I studied only the info in the Arco books and did just fine.

*Know historic space events, such as the first man and woman in space, first man to orbit the earth, and first man on the moon.

*Do well on the math as it counts heavily toward your score.

well I have the newest Arco book and im in college now for aviation maintenance so i have a understanding of basic understanding of flight, i dont know anything about boats either so thats the part that i am really worried about. I also wanted to know if they frown upon taking the test more then once if you do bad the first time?

I took the test twice and there was very few questions in terms of nautical information. As far as taking it more than once, no they do not frown upon that. The board will only see your latest test scores when reviewing your package. They won't know if its your first test, or third. Just remember, when you retake the test, your most recent test scores are the ones that will count, not the highest scores of all tests taken.
 
Course if you have to take it more than once, you have to wait a minimum of 30 days til the next one, so try to get it right the first time. :P

As far as nautical knowledge, look up some online glossaries on the subject.

A lot of beneficial information on aeronautics. I just recently took my ASTB and be prepared to answer questions quickly. Timing out can be an issue on a few of the tests. I practiced multiple times on the marine gouge, but don't just study that. Also when using study guides vere off of what the study guide says to study in similar categories. Example if the study guide says to study german shepards, you should study huskies too. Thats my two cents, I did relatively well scoring a OAR 61 6/5/6
