ASTB for Intel

I am supposed to take the ASTB soon and I was wondering which portions of the exam are the most important if I am trying to go in for Intel? Any gouges or any advice on a study guide would really help. I am terrible at these standardized tests and I think I am starting to psych myself out on this one. Seriously any advice would help.

thank you

Eric

From http://www.cnrc.navy.mil/noru/orojt/generalofficer.htm:

TEST - OAR-35
- AQR-3
- PRT
I'd say those numbers are way low...but assuming that the OAR and AQR are the two scores used, this is from the ASTB overview:
- Academic Qualifications Rating (AQR): This score is affected by performance on all subtests, but the strongest influence is made by the Math Skills Test.
- Pilot Flight Aptitude Rating (PFAR): This score is affected by performance on all subtests, but the greatest contribution is made by the Aviation & Nautical Info and Spatial Apperception Tests.
- Flight Officer Flight Aptitude Rating (FOFAR): This score is affected by performance on all subtests, but the strongest influence is made by the Math Skills Test.
- Officer Aptitude Rating (OAR): This score is affected by performance on the first three subtests, Math Skills, Reading Comprehension, and Mechanical Comprehension.
So, my answer is: math. Study math, and then reading and mechanics. You might want to study some Aeronautical information as well for the AQR. Of course, you can probably get a lot better information by asking your recruiter, or asking him/her to ask the intel community manager.

Go and get the Study Book for Air Force/Navy flight tests. It has some great gouge that can help you a lot.

My advice:
- Learn the basics of an Airplane. i.e. Parts, configurations
- Learn the basics of a Ship i.e. forward, aft, starboard, and different parts.
- Know algebra, geometry and basic Trig. i.e. Sine cosine tangent
- Know basic Physics i.e. mechanical advantage, pulleys, etc.
- Use the book for the rest.

For Intel it would be in you best interest to get around a 150 and an AQR average of about 6 on the ASTB and put together a solid packet, although a lot depends on demand. They say a competitive score is 140 but my recruiter told me a 150 was the target. Good luck Intel is definitely the way to go for an exciting career.
