By the way, the Assault Weapons Ban is not the Brady Law. The Brady Law deals with NCIS. That site is wrong. Brady BACKED the Assault Weapons Ban. It's actually part of the Omnibus Crime Bill of 1994.

If you want to become a FFL, it now requires a legitimate business front. The "basement FFL" is gone.

HOWEVER, you can become a Curio & Relic FFL like me, which lets you buy and sell certain firearms (made before 1956 and on the ATF list) direct, without going through a regular FFL. It's SWEET.

Before the ban you could pick up a Chinese AK for $70.....

Hmm, it would be nice if prices would return to that neighborhood after the ban expires.

Are you implying that I'm a kid???? I'm 21. :icon_smil

I need more SIGs though... oh I love SIG.

yep, my 226 is one of my favorite handguns to shoot.

i saw the los angeles chief of police on CNN last night *****ing about the sunset of the AWB, saying that the streets will be filled with rifles that can fire 30 rounds in 5 seconds. that pisses me off that the so-called experts are going on national news and saying inflammatory and wholly inaccurate stuff like that.

What's your P226 chambered in? I have mine in 9mm. First gun I ever bought. I love it.

Chiefs of Police are a politically appointed position. It's no surprise that the Chief of LA Police is an uneducated nitwit, it's California, I'd say it's par for the course as far as firearm knowledge goes (watch, I'll get some replies saying "I LIVE IN CA AND I KNOW ABOUT GUNS!"). But yes, the media is completely irresponsible. It really really REALLY bothers me that people keep asking me if the law will allow us to buy machine-guns. It's not their ignorance that bothers me, it's the fact that that ignorance has been perpetrated by the media and the likes of Brady and Feinstein.

I'd buy the guy a beer who is good enough to get 30 rounds on target in 5 seconds with a semiautomatic weapon . . . Oh, wait. He doesn't exist.

Guns are so much fun...

There's a Class III FFL dealer in the town where I went to college and believe me, those guys have it really nice. It doesn't hurt that he's rich too. In his office (he owns a car dealership) he has two huge gun safes that are filled with toys the normal guy could only dream about. I think he's got something to the tune of $200,000 tied up in firearms. He's also got some kind of license to be a machine gun manufacturer so he can take a AR-15 and convert it to a fully automatic weapon all day long if he wants to, which is cool.

Anyway, my dad got the hots for a new gun a while back and he ended up buying a Ruger 10/22 and putting a suppressor (silencer) on it. Now that is one cool gun... you can hear the action because it's semi-auto and you can hear the slap of the bullet downrange if you hit something hard, but THAT IS IT. Birds and squirrels and such don't have a chance. I really enjoy taking it out and plinking around. Now that the assault weapons ban is supposed to sunset later this month, he is debating getting a new AR-15 and suppressing it as well. If not that, I think he's going to suppress his old 6mm and kind of re-do it. Either way, we've got this managed place with too many deer on it and I see myself having a really fun time helping control the population...

BTW, we know a guy who works in the D.C. office for the ATF. According to him, the sunset of the assault weapons ban isn't actually until Sept 29 (I think). Yes, we actually know him and that is what he said. All the gun dealers around here think it is the 14th or 15, but in actuality it may be more like the end of the month.

Anyway, the point of my long, boring post is that yes guns are cool and yes people like me are joining the military :D I'd get the ball rolling on getting a suppressed AR-15 myself, but it's hard for me to predict how much I'd be able to shoot it. Realistically, how much free time do you SNA types have? Do you have time to go shoot every weekend if you wanted? What about hunting - any avid hunters out there? Lots of places to go?

Yeah, dealers can do that. Regular Joe's like us used to be able to do that until 1986, when they banned the production and sale of new Class III to normal civilians.

Those Ruger 10/22 are FINE rifles. I have one myself. You can do SO MUCH with them. You think that is quiet? Ever hear a bolt-action .22LR? Now put a supressor on that... it IS silent. It's so cool. What's funny is people here in the states are afraid of suppressed firearms... yet in some countries you can hunt ONLY with a suppressed firearm to not disturb people. Go figure.

Sounds like horsesh!t to me. Not everyone in the ATF knows their job (I'm not calling your friend out, shoot, he may be right! But it's DEFINITELY happened before...). The BATF DID send letters to manufacturers telling them they could resume production on September 14... so... I guess we'll see. I hope your friend is wrong.

Just a note about Class III. Moving around is a B1TCH. You have to re-register everywhere you move. If you can keep your Class III toys in Texas, well then that works. Yes there is PLENTY of time to do that stuff. I could go shooting every single weekend if I wanted to. I'm just lazy and hate driving 1 hour to the range. I love shooting, I hate driving. Go figure.

How long do you guys think before I'll be able to pick up an M-4 with a Bayonette lug and collapsing stock? Seems to me like those should be in high demand for a while. And the price will be ginormous if Flip-Flop-Kerry gets elected.

What do yall think the supply is going to be like immediately after the expiration? Do yall think that there will be large quantities being imported from overseas (basically hitting the ports/border crossings the day of the expiration), so that sales can resume immediately? Or will there be a lag time, as manufacturers ramp up production and get stuff shipped out?

Basically, I guess I'm asking if alot of this stuff will be shipped in, or manufactured in the USA?
