So what exactly is going to be legalized when the Brady Bill expires? We still wont be able to buy full auto rifles, are we?
full auto isn't illegal if you have the proper permit. The 1934 National Firearms Act made it illegal to own a full auto gun unless you got a permit (to the tune of $200 for each gun). A class III FFL will give you the ability to buy full auto, i think you even avoid the tax (because you'd be a dealer) but that costs $1000+ a year I think, not exactly sure how you go about getting a class III FFL. Legal full auto guns must also be registered with the BATF.
The Assault Weapon's Ban, banned certain guns, eg: AR-15, AK's, Dragunov SVD Sniper Rifle , etc. Full text of the bill:

It also started a "BAN OF LARGE CAPACITY AMMUNITION FEEDING DEVICES", such as pistol mags of greater than 10 rounds. Now if a mag was made BEFORE the Assault Weapons Ban, then it can be bought and sold, those mags run around $80-100 for my Glock. You can, if you're a cop or other official government employee (with the need), buy high caps for retail price (about $20) which are post ban, but those mags say "Law Enforcement or Government Use Only". If you were to be caught using one by Johnny Law, you'd be screwed, big time.
You can still buy those guns listed above, again so long as they were imported prior to the ban. Before the ban you could pick up a Chinese AK for $70, now they're around $175-250 (i've seen lots of other prices, but that seemed to be the average).
The lifting of this ban will be a good thing. wish i had more disposable income! I don't have any desire to shoot people (well, that's not entirely true, the next jackass who doesn't use his turn signal....), i just like wasting paper targets - with an assault rifle. They're fun and like any other firearm, perfectly safe in the hands of an adult or used under adult supervision.
One thing the anti-gun people seem to forget is that guns do NOT kill people, I kill people...er...people kill people, yes, that's it...
viva la revolution!
edited: wrong bill, i posted about the brady bill, not assault weapons ban
