Wow... did I open up pandora's box or what?! I have the utmost respect for WOs. For the most part they find themselves inbetween the enlisted and commissioned ranks. They are disliked by both. The are labeled as traitors to the enlisted and not real officers by the commissioned ranks. There is no argument the WO is a specialist in whatever field. Their job is to advise their superiors in the field in which they specialize.
Labeling commissioned officers as generalists is still off target. The WO might assist in training new Lieutenants but those lieutenants eventually become unit commanders. And its is they who will give the final order not the CWO3 in the cockpit. Army, Navy, Marine Corps its all the same. Don't think CWOs know it all. They don't make command decisions and its not their job. A lot of CWOs tend over step their boundaries and they are always put back in place by a commissioned officer. Sorry... even CWOs have to take orders from 1st & 2nd Lieus. So take a seat CWO... The commissioned officer's speciality is leadership and you will follow orders.
The Marine Corps does not have CWO pilots. All pilots are commissioned officers for obvious reasons. We want the best.
