Army plans to cut carbon "bootprint" by 30%

And then some adversary lights up one oil rig somewhere or opens an oil pipeline into the gulf again...and all your "carbon credits" are up in smoke...no pun intended.
 
So does anyone else think it is retarded that the military is trying so hard to save money to buy bullets and beans, yet they are laying sod over by the CCAD on NASCC? What a waste of fucking money!

Oh, well you see, it's all very complicated. That money comes from a different pot that can't be used to buy bullets because it was allotted to us by a group of little old ladies in Omaha who wanted to help beautify local bases by buying everyone a puppy. And if we don't spend it, we'll lose it for next year. Besides, these kinds of critical decisions are made by someone way above your paygrade who has many more years in military finance and sees the angles that you can't even begin to fathom.

I honestly think that if "green" tech can work the military applications would be incredible. If a hydrogen burning engine could be made to power a tank and gives off water as a byproduct-the two things we need to truck millions of gallons are fuel and water as we invade desert nations. The mobility benefit could be incredible.
If you really want "green" tech to work make it work in war and it will then translate to other aspects as is almost always the way of things.
 
Such a huge amount of innovation in this world has come from engineering for warfare.

That said, all that innovation came from a neccessity/intent to kill more effectively, keep someone alive, or carry more stuff into battle better. It is not currently the intent for green technlogy to do any of those things. Therefore, I still think it is gay for the military to apply current technology.
 
And lest anyone think otherwise, it's all coming out of self-interest. Efficiency gains from insulating tents, for example, means fewer convoys and a lighter logistical footprint, which is the real endstate.
 
Perhaps they could also think of modifying the vehicles to plant trees and irrigate the locals crops as they roll through to battle. Be eco friendly and boost PR! :D
