I normally do, but I've been having tonsil problems lately and haven't been able to do much...and I'm not supposed to take anything because I'll be getting them carved out soon. Are you asking what works well? If so, then first what are your goals (get lean, bulk up etc.)? Whichever goal you have, first make sure you're getting enough quality protein and also quality calories...note the word quality. This is because supplements are just that...supplementary to your diet. If your diet isn't good, then all the supplements in the world won't help. Also, make sure you're training properly...ie for your specific goal, but not overtraining.

Now if you're diet is solid, then make your building block supplements a multi-vitamin (I like centrum performance or generic equivalent), and essential amino acids (bcaa's) which will help build, or spare muscle when leaning out. The next step is to add a meal replacement (met-rx) and/or protein shake. These are versatile in achieving either goal because they help you get the 5-6 quality meals in every day. If you're wanting to gain, then use regular meal replacements and protein shakes, if you want to lose fat use light and low carb versions. Also, you might want to use conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and Flax Seed Oil for essential fatty acids (omega 3's and 6's). These are good fats and CLA has been shown to stimulate fat burning if that's your goal (4-6g per day).

The next step would be creatine, which is really just another amino acid. It is useful in recovery, for both gaining and losing. As you break ATP (adenosine triphosphate) into ADP (adenosine diphosphate), then the creatine monohydrate binds with the free P (phosphate) making creatine phosphate (CP). Then during recovery the CP will donate the P to the ADP helping you recover ATP more quickly allowing you to lift more intensely for longer periods of time. Basically, you'll get more out of your lifts. During the loading phase (5-7 days) you will gain about 5+ lbs. which is water weight. It causes your muscles to hold water in the cells, which is why it is essential to drink tons of water (shoot for about 1 gallon per day while on creatine). Also, it will help your kidneys during high protein diets and supplementation.

The next step would be any of the more advanced supplements. Depending on your goals that would be testosterone boosters to fat burners. If you're gaining (or want to spare muscle during diets) you can take a testosterone support supplement, but I would recommend staying away from prohormones (andros) and use anti-estrogen supplements. For burning fat, you can use an ECA (ephedra-caffeine-aspirin) supplement like Xenadrine, but check with a doc first in case of high blood pressure. If you don't want to be on edge...try the ephedra-free version (Xenadrine EFX), or something similar. It has other ingredients. You can also use coleus forskolii, beta-3 and guggul sterones (thyroid support...t-2 and t-3 are depressed in diets), 7-keto-dhea (NOT regular DHEA) and similar products that will act in synergy and enhance each other. That's a bit of an overview, but I hope it helps.

No, I'm not a doc, or guru, but I was a biology and sportscience double major before switching majors and I also do lots of research prior to using anything...and I strongly suggest you do the same. Make sure you have no heart or blood pressure problems if you use a stimulant like ephedra...otherwise you could get into trouble. If you have more specific goals, I'd be happy to offer any advice I can. Let me know. Just send me an IM, or email via this website. Good luck and God Bless!

I just had my flight physicals and both the military flight surgeon and the civilian doctor said to avoid anything with Ephadra like the plague. It can affect your heart - and when that shows up on the EKG, you are going to have huge problems with your physicals. Their words - not mine.

We were told that no supplements are allowed except for multivitamins and those that the flight surgeon specifically allow. Creatine, fat burners and test. precursors were definitely not allowed. Since you can't use them once you start flight training, i wouldn't bother with them.

What did they say was wrong with creatine? I understand that the ephedra can cause problems with blood pressure and heart problems for those with pre-existing conditions, but studies have shown no evidence that ephedra has negative effects on healthy individuals. Of course, if you overuse the products (as with anything) it can cause problems, and if you use them too long without cycling them then you could get adrenal gland burn-out. Actually, if you think about it...the high blood pressure effects could possibly be desirable in fighter pilots who pull high-g maneuvers...it helps keep the blood where it should be...in your brain. Basically, that's what a g-suit does...inflate to increase blood pressure and force it into your head. Well, that's just 2 more cents from me...save 'em up and cash them in =)

hobbs77,

Well, you have to do a bit of research beyond what the actual sales websites have. I like to see reviews of what others who've used the product have to say. Here's one site of reviews I found:
http://www.supplementcritic.com/myoblast_csp.htm
Even with reviews, though, you still have to wonder if they used it as directed, followed a good diet and work out routine etc. Here's another review:
http://www.sports-supplements.co.uk/cgi-bin/rms/magpie/do/display.cgi?product-sku=cytomyoblast&find-lower-limit=1
I mean, if you really want to try it and can afford it, then try it for a month. I probably wouldn't spend the money based on what I've read, and also the claims seem to be a little far-fetched. If you do try it feel free to let me know. Oh, I also buy supplements from www.dpsnutrition.net they generally have the best prices, but not on this product.

not too bad when your 19....the only thing is you have to push products that are on commission, they can be god awful products, so if you have a conscience (sp?) like i do, then you have a hard time

Hmmm...didn't know GNC was a commission job. I don't like to push crappy products either. I know how hard it is to hold onto your cash as a college kid. I mean...getting ripped off on books and tuition is quite plenty. Adrenaline Rush, I have a decent grip on what a lot of supplements do because 1) I majored in Bio/Sports Science for 2 years, 2) have tried tons of them and 3) love to read. I research any supplements prior to trying them because I like to know how they're working. If it doesn't sound right, then I won't buy it. I used to be into the body-building thing, too...but a 5'9 frame (me) would look goofey if it's too big. Now I'm trying to go the way of the tri-athlete. Are you planning on competing next year? Oh, how do you take your creatine? That could possibly be the problem. Let me know.

When I have taken it in the past this has worked well for me. I would use pure creatine monohydrate and take it with...water. I used to take it with juice, but I didn't like the empty calories. I would take 5-7 days to 'load' about 20g per day, then I would switch to 10g per day in two doses. One dose (teaspoon) prior to working out (~2 hours before) and one does immediately following the workout. Don't forget to drink at least about 1 gallon of water per day. It could very well be that maybe you're not that sensitive to the stuff. If not, then maybe you should just be hardcore with the protein. Good luck with it.

Do you get those headaches often? Might want to keep that to yourself.
I've heard horror stories about people being NPQ'd for headaches, but that's hear-say.
