Hello all,

I'm about to graduate from a reputable college with a 3.9 GPA in Political Science and Philosophy. I've interned with the State Dept., Justice Dept., and a US Senator, and have work experience in the computer/tech/Internet industry. I want to become an Intel officer, and I've been told I have good chances; however, I've been treated for anxiety for about 3 years and recently got off meds. I saw a psychiatrist literally once a year during college, and took two medications. I'm told you have to be off meds for at least a year to even be considered for a waiver, but if I was just having test/performance anxiety, would this really prohibit me from being considered given my record? I received DoS Secret Clearance (and the equivalent for DOJ), which required 5 medical interviews. I therefore have medical clearance for all civilian government service for the rest of my life so long as I don't receive further treatment. My psychiatrist has already written (and would write again) a letter for medical clearance saying it's basically a non-issue and would not interfere with any professional responsibilities. Would this help my chances?

I really appreciate any advice anyone might have (unfortunately, I can't PM anyone with more details, as I require at least 50 posts to do so).

Thanks!

Edit: I should clarify, I'm off meds right now, and by the time I start the application process, it'll have been a year or more since I was on them.

It would be wise of you to show some initiative and talk with an officer recruiter now, not when you 'officially' start the application process. I think you have a lot of positives on your side (docs willingness to write a letter, medical interviews, time off meds, etc.) and your chances look very good. Make that call today and start getting rid of any hurdles.

Thanks for the response. I've tried contacting the recruiter in my area a couple times (left messages), but no response. Should I advertise more than my contact information in the voicemail? Thanks, and I'll update as I get more info.

OR...you could always drop by the OR office. That works. It also helps when my kick-ass OR is being very kick-ass that day.

If it isn't too far, I'd drive.

Is there a way to find a local OR office?..I have checked the Navy website and for my zip code they only provide an 800 number

UF_ME, I called the local number that was given for my zipcode, and the automated message said I had called the 800 number... I don't think it matters.

(Also, still looking for anyone else's opinion on the original post. Thanks.)
