Anyone "techies" know how to take a clip from a song and burn it to a CD?

Smart People,

Does anyone know how to take clips from the middle of a song and make a single file out of that clip that can then be burned a its own "song" on a CD?

I am getting married and we need some brief clips from certain songs to play at the reception... REAL long story. It would be perfect if the DJ could just put a CD I burn into his player, hit "1" and get one clip, skip to "4" and get another. It is key though that I only get part of the songs, especially if we want to play the clip more than once.

Do I need to buy something to be able to do this? If I do, I will for sure. Right now all I have is Windows Media, Real, and all those. Is there a download or something?

Are you in the fleet? Find your closest JO (journalist, not junior officer) and ask them how they do that (don't bother if they don't have access to a studio). Or find some movie editing studio near you, the kind of place that puts together a squadron cruise video, and ask them how they do it or if they can do it for you.

Welcome to the 21st century. All that can and is done on any PC with the appropriate software. Any sound editing program (I use Soundforge by Sonic Foundry) will be able to do that for you. I'm sure you can find a no frills one for free with a little search through Google or tucows.com.

Yeah, but I am in-between the FRS my fleet squadron, so now is the only time I really have to fiddle around with stuff like this.

Yes I am stupid. I will probably just end up hanging out in the '90's due to ignorance. Could you be a little more specific on how to do this?

Sure, I'm been doing sound editing for 15 years, so I'll do what I can. FYI, that trial version of SF may not let you save what you're working on unless you shell out the dough to buy it. You may be able to find an older version that doesn't constrain you like that. If you're computer savvy, there are ways to circumvent this issue, but it would be wrong and unprofessional of me to suggest that. The 21st century comment was directed at Road Program because he suggested that you go to a studio or production facility. That's akin to going to the ER for a scraped knee. Good luck!

Yeah, I'm a little behind the times when it comes to computers. I consider it a major accomplishment that I can use my Ipod.
