Short version: VIP trip, pilot does a roll, failure of communication with back seat, VIP reaches for something to hold on to....the ejection handle.

The ejection can be set to both or only yourself. For VIP's...it's not both.

SWO CAPT, he was the CO of an AEGIS in the battlegroup who was seeing how the Air Wing worked. I got there about 4 days after it happened for workups with CVWR-20. Some of our advance party was at the O Club the Friday after it happened and the guy was there asking rhetorically if people were suppose to be buying him drinks because he punched out. Everyone just ignored him. The plane was there until we left, I think they were waiting for the extra seat and canopy.

SWO that didn't listen up during the pre-flight briefs. Lucky he did not break his back.

I was on the roof just off the right side of this A-6 as it trapped, standing on the foul line. The Boss anounced the "Emergency Pullforward" over the 5MC but did not say why...we soon found out why. I remember watching him in the groove, three gear, two motors, hooks down, hey what the HE** is that???!!!
I had my camera with me as a Russian Hormone was hovering off our stbd side just prior to this recovery. When I saw the B/N like that, we thought he had not made it and took no photos.
Glad he's with us today.
