If you search for "Motorcycles," you'll find several good threads to get you started.

I'll throw in my $.02 here - I ride a KLR 250 (little brother of the 650) and it gets around pretty well. A new KLR 650 will run you somewhere between $4700-$5000, depending on where you go shopping at. From most of the reviews I've read, the new VerSys from Kawasaki has all the punch of a Ninja 650, and the suspension travel of a dual sport. Most riders report a minimal amount of fatigue after doing an all-day ride. The VerSys runs about $6K.
Good luck in your search.

I have been building and riding turbo hayabusas for about 3 years now. I will say though its getting scary out there on the streets and I blame cell phones.

I'm one of those people that enjoys pouring through the archives of online communities and I've found quite a few old AW threads that I would love to add my comments. Yet, I'm also worried that I'll get e-slapped for resurrecting old, tired threads so is there a general rule (besides the obviously locked threads) about which threads can be revived. One thread, dealing with the election, dates back to May but I'd love to comment on it.

Back to the thread, I've always felt more comfortable riding a motorcycle than I did driving a car. I feel more in control, for some reason. As soon as I tackle my debt a bit, I plan on buying a cruiser and taking a trip out to Sturgis.

Absolutely. If you are interested in seeing them, I'll be happy to share my pictures when I get there. :) I hope to be there next summer but I haven't dedicated myself to making it a deadset goal.

In general, the Sturgis crowd belong to an older age group than myself but I'd still like to attend and absorb the culture. I've got friends out in Spearfish and I was lucky enough to ride through the Black Hills last Thanksgiving. Its beautiful country out there. I regret not stopping out in Deadwood.

Brett, I see you've got a nice gsx-r1000. i was strongly considering going with a gsx-r myself, probably the 750. what are your thoughts on how it rides compared to others.

Sturgis would be a good time but I'm nowhere near ready to do a trip like that. I bet the Black Hills are nice, especially compared to flat Texas (CC). On the plus side, my Kuryakyn side mount license plate holder just came in so I have a new project for the weekend.
