deployment sucks
let me preface this by saying i'm not against these gun threads nor is this anything personal, T-man. my apologies.

[begin thread jack]

personal guns don't have anything to do with naval aviation any more than hot dogs do. so why did the hot dog thread get deleted and none of the gun threads do?

it's been a while since that thread came up and i can't even remember the moderator who deleted the original thread, then closed and deleted the second thread, but he should have gotten negative points for discrimination.

[end thread jack]

I disagree. Firearms, personal or otherwise, are completely appropriate to the subject of warfighting. Most of the aviators will carry a sidearm while flying operational flights in Indian Country and others who are deployed to hazardous areas (Iraq/Afghanistan) will carry them 24/7. Having said that, discussion of weapons, shooting, concealment, holstering and firearm safety seems completely germane to Naval Aviation. By contrast, I've never eaten a hotdog in flight, nor have I brandished one at enemy forces.

I didn't see the hot dog thread but I venture to say that guns are of more interest to most folks on this board than a discussion of hot dogs. Further, guns are a tool of the trade, to one degree or another, of all who are or will be in the US military. One can have a serious discussion about firearms, but I'd be willing to bet that the aforementioned hot dog thread was scarcely serious. While you might not be against the gun threads, I can't help but think you may be against guns more than you are willing to admit here. If that isn't the case, the only other reason for your comment is that you think mighty highly of hot dogs.

oh no, i'm definitely not against guns; i'm a southern gal! and, really, i don't like hot dogs.

i just had an issue with the logic/principle of a moderator quoting the intro to airwarriors and seemingly hipocritically standing on a soap box about what's to be discussed on this forum. there are many interesting things that are discussed here that don't particularly pertain to aviation, but those threads aren't deleted multiple times with curt, condescending replies. i thought this might be a good example. maybe a better example was the coke/pop/soda poll that was quite active for some time.

you're right, guns are more appropriate to this website than hot dogs :) however, i'd venture to guess that hot dogs have been discussed in flight? at least at work at some point by avaitors/nfos?

really, it was just the priniciple of the thing.

Threadjack:

Speaking of hot dogs.... we used to personally ask for the "Hotdog Lady" slides during recce slide shows on cruise...and talked about her in flight, too. :)
Ah yes, the good old days.

A Cubi Dog mmmm...ranks up there with the infamous..."Cordon Bleu Burger"

I'll take that with a Cubi Nuclear Special...

Now if I was feeling espacially dangerous I'd get Cubi Global Thermal-Nuclear Specials...now that had a good stiff kick.

Then off to get a massage behind the O'Club... :)

Their gun prices look pretty good. Thought I'd share the link and ask if anyones has ever heard of them, or bought through them? If so, opinions?

Great guys. Get their dealer catalog if you can... you can get police trade-ins and such for amazing prices. Contact your local FFL and talk to them about it. THere is a lot on that website they don't show you. Trust me.

The open thread is in the war zone. Far more latitude there. Not even moderated by intent, only super moderators will take action there and then for opsec reasons or taste.

The moderators here all have different standards and direction or purpose for the site. When in doubt they tend to shave it pretty thin. The webmaster knows only a couple of these guys personally. He has never given marching orders but general guidlines are discussed among several of us on the moderator forum. We try to keep some base connnection to aviation and the military in the various forums with the exception of the war zone. If you don't know where to put something or whether it is of interest to a broad spectrum, then post it in the war zone.

To bring this around to aviation, the moderators are not unlike instructors in the training command. Some will be real hard cases, some will be Santa Claus, lots of them in between. You get a tough moderator looking at a post in one of his forums he may think it more frivolous then another moderator, but he will do what he thinks is right. Like in naval aviation, b!tching about it will get you no where.
