I was just wondering about this. What happens if you, for some reason, balk on the requirements for the program you're picked up for. I know there's the two year enlisted commitment. Is that all they make you pay back or is there more that the brochure didn't mention?

If you mean do you have to pay back the money they give you... my understanding is that you are being paid for your time in the program. They are not paying for your education. So other than the enlistment committment, you dont pay them back. But if you get in... dont plan on balking.

I don't know what you're talking about. My penalty for dropping out of the program requires me to serve an EIGHT year commitment. Four years active, four reserve. All I can say is read the fine print.

If you don't make officer, you have to serve 24 months enlisted.

Thats what I was told too, the best thing to do if you discovered that you really didn't want to be in the Navy for some reason, was to go to OCS and get commision, then be a complete failure at your new training and get kicked out. Word is they have to many officers right now as it is, and if your not cutting it, your out.

That is an absolutely horrible idea. If you are offered BDCP and you are not completely sure you want to be a Naval Officer then decline BDCP and still accept the slot in OCS.

If you get through OCS then wash out of whatever training command you go to, you can count on a minimum of 2 yrs before you get processed out. If you are BDCP and you wash out of OCS you will be stuck in H (hell) then student pool (purgatory) for an eternity, then you will serve 2 years as a striker in the fleet (back to hell)

It doesnt take anywhere near two years to get the boot. I personally know guys that DOR'd or were NPQ'd and they were out in about 3 1/2 months. Same goes for OCS guys. I havent heard of anybody being sent to do the enlisted thing for BDCP.

I agree about not taking the slots if your not sure, but on the other, your passing bad gouge.

It's two years not 8. Everyone else is on the right page. Maybe the Navy just liked you so much they gave you a special contract.

That is your penalty for signing the contract. That is 4 yrs active duty as an Officer, after graduation from OCS, and a total of 8 yrs of combined service between active duty, active reserves, and inactive reserves.

Your penalty for dropping out of BDCP is a 2 yr enlisted commitment as an undesignated striker.

When I was enlisted I had a rating, but still had to chip and paint... It sucks big time. That's one of the reasons why I got out after my initial enlistment was up.

If you are E-1 ~ E-5 you are going to do the dirty jobs in the fleet regardless of what your rating is.
