I starting a new thread because it seems most of the others are over a month old and aren't really covering what I'm about to ask.

Just wondering what people's experiences have been lately with housing availability, specifically in the UWF area. From what I've heard, PNS is still a tent city (and tire places are working over time repairing roofing nail damage to tires), so I'm wondering if there are still decent houses to buy or rent in the NE area of town.

When I went through flight school, I lived at Gov. Gate, and liked the location. Close enough to most things in Pensacola, but not too terribly far from work at Whiting. Kind of thinking along the same lines here.

Any thought?

Governor's Gate is still around, albeit with damage to some of the units. I have several good friends there, so I'm in and out once or twice a week. There are lots of people looking for apartments and houses, so I don't know what their availability is. One friend is looking to but a house closer to Whiting. He and his wife have been looking at houses here in Milton. Agents have said that housing values jumped 10-15% the day after Hurricane Ivan. Houses in my neighborhood that were going for $115-120K last spring are now going for closer to $150K. There have been multiple bids on most of the houses nearing completion on the block. They are available, but they don't last long. Good luck, and be prepared to act if you find a house or an apartment you like. Apparently there are lots of folks running around with insurance money burning holes in their pockets!

Hmm, okay. That's about what I expected. Damn, I thought I would be leaving the cuthroat real estate market of Hawaii for something easier. :)

Thanks for the info.
