Sad, but the number of WW2 vets are decreasing every minute and they have so many interesting stories to tell. I had the privlage to meet several veterans of the battle of Midway a few years ago. One was a gunner in a SBD squadron and the attack on the Japanese carriers was his first combat mission. He said the approach to the bombing run was the scariest part because of the flak. He claimed he rather be attacked by ten zeros than have to fly through flak because atleast you had a chance against enemy aircraft. He also claimed that the attack run/dive was dangerous but it was the biggest thrill he ever experienced.
