I think I have gotten like 10 or so copies of this in my email box from people forwarding this on, some of you may also of gotten copies. Any thoughts or comments on this?

quote:Subject: An old marine offers advice on the legacy of 9/11

"DO NOT FORGET" I sat in a movie theater watching "Schindler's List," asked myself, "Why didn't the Jews fight back?"

Now I know why.

I sat in a movie theater, watching "Pearl Harbor" and asked myself, "Why weren't we prepared?"

Now I know why.

Civilized people cannot fathom, much less predict, the actions of evil people.

On September 11, dozens of capable airplane passengers allowed themselves to be overpowered by a handful of poorly armed terrorists because they did not comprehend the depth of hatred that motivated their captors.

On September 11, thousands of innocent people were murdered because too many Americans naively reject the reality that some nations are dedicated
to the dominance of others. Many political pundits, pacifists and media personnel want us to forget the carnage. They say we must focus on the bravery of the rescuers and ignore the cowardice of the killers. They implore us to understand the motivation of the perpetrators. Major television stations have announced they will assist the healing process by not replaying devastating footage of the planes crashing into the Twin Towers.

I will not be manipulated.

I will not pretend to understand.

I will not forget.

I will not forget the liberal media who abused freedom of the press to kick our country when it was vulnerable and hurting.

I will not forget that CBS anchor Dan Rather preceded President Bush's address to the nation with the snide remark, "No matter how you feel about him, he is still our president."

I will not forget that ABC TV anchor Peter Jennings questioned President Bush's motives for not returning immediately to Washington, DC and commented, "We're all pretty skeptical and cynical about Washington."

And I will not forget that ABC's Mark Halperin warned if reporters weren't informed of every little detail of this war, they aren't "likely -- nor should they be expected -- to show deference."

I will not isolate myself from my fellow Americans by pretending an attack on the USS Cole in Yemen was not an attack on the United States of America.

I will not forget the Clinton administration equipped Islamic terrorists and their supporters with the world's most sophisticated telecommunications equipment and encryption technology, thereby compromising America's ability to trace terrorist radio, cell phone, land lines, faxes and modem communications.

I will not be appeased with pointless, quick retaliatory strikes like those perfected by the previous administration.

I will not be comforted by "feel-good, do nothing" regulations like the silly "Have your bags been under your control?" question at the airport.

I will not be influenced by so called," antiwar demonstrators" who exploit the right of _expression to chant anti-American obscenities.

I will not forget the moral victory handed the North Vietnamese by American war protesters who reviled and spat upon the returning soldiers, airmen, sailors and Marines.

I will not be softened by the wishful thinking of pacifists who chose reassurance over reality.

I will embrace the wise words of Prime Minister Tony Blair who told Labor Party conference, "They have no moral inhibition on the slaughter of the innocent. If they could have murdered not 7,000 but 70,000, does anyone doubt they would have done so and rejoiced in it?

There is no compromise possible with such people, no meeting of minds, no point of understanding with such terror. Just a choice: defeat it or be defeated by it. And defeat it we must!

I will force myself to:

-hear the weeping
-feel the helplessness
-imagine the terror
-sense the panic
-smell the burning flesh
-experience the loss
-remember the hatred.

I sat in a movie theater, watching "Private Ryan" and asked myself, "Where did they find the courage?" Now I know.

We have no choice. Living without liberty is not living.

man this guy is just like the people he quoted. he feels good by blaming his political opponents for 9/11. HOW CONVIENIENT that its always the "other guys fault" the liberals, the gays, the tree huggers, and so on.... man

quote "and media personnel want us to forget the carnage"
please.... carnage is thier business

this guy is just using the old "straw man" argument (missrepresent your opponents views and strike them down)

quote "I will not forget the Clinton administration equipped Islamic terrorists and their supporters with the world's most sophisticated telecommunications equipment and encryption technology, thereby compromising America's ability to trace terrorist radio, cell phone, land lines, faxes and modem communications"

yeah I'm sure he did this to exactly as stated here. Hell he probably gave them personally to Bin Laden. and Hamas and PLO and everybody else....can you smell a straw man here?

quote "I will not be appeased with pointless, quick retaliatory strikes like those perfected by the previous administration"

ok now.. Would any of you have supported going to war with Afghanistan BEFORE 9/11? if not then who was he (Clinton) supposed to do a full scale attack on. Serbia?

quote "I will not be influenced by so called," antiwar demonstrators" who exploit the right of _expression to chant anti-American obscenities"

ok here is yet another straw man.... come on guys being a anti-war doesn't automatically make somebody anti american. or is he labeling anti american people as people who don't agree with his views or his politcs.

quote "I will force myself to:

-hear the weeping
-feel the helplessness
-imagine the terror
-sense the panic
-smell the burning flesh
-experience the loss
-remember the hatred:

lets remember 9/11 sure I agree but lets not use it as an excuse to flame/blacklist etc.. politcal opponents or ideologies.

quote" There is no compromise possible with such people, no meeting of minds, no point of understanding"...........

sound like he is describing himself. he reminds me of the retired colonel on American Beauty who said "this country is going to shit" and its not "his" fault i'm sure.....

Politics is a suicide discussion to get into, and I think 9/11 is a fairly heated topic even today with the 1 year anniversary coming upon us. But here are a few of my thoughts to some things this guy said:

"I will not be appeased with pointless, quick retaliatory strikes like those perfected by the previous administration."

I took an oath to support and defend the constitution of the United States and to obey all of those appointed over me. If I am ordered or asked (as I was in Operation Allied Force and Souther Watch in '99.) to go some place and carry out the orders of my President, JCS or government. I will go and unleash the Eagles claws with hell's fury. I may not agree with being there (such as in Bosnia,), but it is my job and I will carry it out.

"I will not forget that CBS anchor Dan Rather preceded President Bush's address to the nation with the snide remark, "No matter how you feel about him, he is still our president."

The press is a liability and threaten the lives of those I serve(ed) with. More often than not they are pointed in a direction and not unbias as they should be, so what they say is irrelevant to me personally.

"I will not be influenced by so called," antiwar demonstrators" who exploit the right of _expression to chant anti-American obscenities.

I will not forget the moral victory handed the North Vietnamese by American war protesters who reviled and spat upon the returning soldiers, airmen, sailors and Marines."

To me, these people are able to do this because I (we) give them the right to do so. So what consequence to they have to me, none at all, they have not picked up the gun and earned the right to protest our brothers in combat right now.

"I will not forget the Clinton administration equipped Islamic terrorists and their supporters with the world's most sophisticated telecommunications equipment and encryption technology, thereby compromising America's ability to trace terrorist radio, cell phone, land lines, faxes and modem communications."

I'm sure he would have sold the oval office if he could have gotten away with it, its Clinton, nuff said.

Anyway, maybe these comments are relevant or perhaps they are not. But I swore an oath and it DID NOT end the day I left the hanger as a civilian and it will not end the day I retire. It is an oath to my boss, as Tom Clancy said in "Clear and Present Danger":

"You swore and oath, an oath to your boss. Not to me, and not to the President. You swore an oath to his boss, the people and your word is who you are."

Those cowards chose to declare war on the people of this country and freedom world wide, and the American way of life, Constitution and people of this country are who I fight for, not for a President.

(My own thoughts, pehaps its a different insight.)

hey man I served to 95-99 U.S. Navy, But, does that give me the rights of citzenship over people who have not? NO IT DOES NOT. we are not a military controlled country, people who have served are to be honored, but the core or heart of this country is built the people who work, live, play, die, and serve. Some people serve there country in different ways. They are not protesting our brothers, they are protesting the war. and in case you forgot that is their right given to them by our Constitution which was forged by the people, not just the army/navy/marines/air force. I hope to get selected but, like you I serve the people and I will not pretend to be superior over them just cause I am in the military.

True true, was not trying to give off the impression that I am superior, and I am truely honored to have been privliged to wear the uniform after those who have sacrificed so much more than I ever did. I can say my mind set on that subject was MUCH more one sided than it is now, since being out I have a much different persective and view of the citizens of our country and I truely feel privliged to serve them. I have deticated my life to serving those who make this country so great, even the ones who hate us for what we do.

Hee Hee ... sounds pretty dorky huh? When I was still in the Navy I started writing a story and I'm big into art. When I started collage I was an Animation and Illustration major and got to figuring out how to build a site. So to make a long story short, I started the "Imperial Expansion" series of stories and wanted to really do something with the site I was mess'n around with. So I build it as if the characters were talking to the viewer and making posts. So the "Capt. Ryan" is one of my main characters in the story and it was a post. But I had all these high animation hopes and was gonna (an still plan on) making Imperial Expansion a full length animated film.

Now the site is kind of been revamped and I wanted to change the theme, if you go to the "Prowler Art Studio" part there is a link to the old site, or whats left of it that hasn't been deleted. Guess I should probably delete the older posts ... LOL That guest book has been my own make shift forum for my few and far between fans who wanted to see my online portfolio.

holy shiite dude.that was some weird stuff. no offense though. but creative nonetheless. Hey man were you the guy who got to paint the company flag in RTC?

oh about Princess "Jessikka" ........is she hot? how much does a "Peenal Fighter" cost?

A suggestion though. when writing your story (Distant Visions) I noticed that you like to name the places in the plot very "sci fi-ey"
Neeq for example is an ok name. but Galllahkan now thats weird. If maybe you changed the name a bit maybe to Gallah-Khan. the thing is it sounds very cliche to name the places, people and things too sci-fiey. I really liked the intro paragraph in Distant Visions. I really felt like I could "see" what you were describing. later dude. just constructive criticism. peenal though? c'mon

Hey everyone, instead of starting a new thread, I figured I would throw this in here since its related.

I wish everyone a safe and happy week as we approach the anniversary of 9/11. I hope everyone can spend time with family and loved ones or have loving contact with them. Each of us are blessed for living in the United States, and each of us who are waiting to join the fight can continue the fight and do our parts today by supporting our Red - White and Blue brother and sisters in arms. I wish the best to each of you, your friends, family and shipmates as each of us reflect and remember.

Valion310 A PROUD AMERICAN ...
