It wasn't just the gambling but the repeated denials even when given a chance to come clean again, again. again.....and again, with no regrets other than the fact he was caught. The statutory rape stuff doesn't really help either.

Listening to sports radio, one of the broadcasters recalled an interview with him well after he retired. Broadcaster promised not to bring up gambling or the scandal and only talk baseball.

Well, apparently during the commercial breaks, Rose took out a sheet of paper and started going down the list asking for results of a whole slew of college football games among nobodies. Broadcaster goes "I dunno man, there's the computer, go ahead and look them up." He said that the on-air convo about baseball was fantastic, but that was an indication that Rose never kicked the gambling habit despite his claims to the contrary.

Then said he ran into him sometime later and Rose essentially flipped him off.

Lance Armstrong's juicing wasn't the most reprehensible part of that saga; it is what he did to those around him through lies, manipulation, and intimidation.
 
The Super Regionals have started and tiny Coastal Carolina is getting hot again, 9 years after we shocked the baseball world by winning the CWS. The biggest upset so far is #12 Oregon already knocked out, followed by the numbers of teams who have lost 1 game and facing elimination: #1 Vanderbilt, #2 Texas, #7 Georgia, #8 Oregon St and #11 Clemson.

And to go down memory lane, this popped up on my youtube feed: the 4th of July,1985 Braves - Mets game that went 19 innings to include a career .060 average pitcher Rick Camp hitting an 0-2, 2 out pitch for a homerun to tie it in the 18th.

 
Coastal Carolina sweeps #4 Auburn at the Super Regionals and is the first team to punch its ticket to the CWS in Omaha. Winning streak now at 23 games. Chants Up!

And here we go with the MLB playoffs. Some historical rivalries such as Dodgers-Reds and Yankees-Red Sox but very strange to see Toronto and Milwaukee as #1 seeds.
 
As a Brewers fan, I’m hopeful. Last time they had the #1 seed, they ended up making it to their only WS appearance (and lost). As of late they’ve been plagued by early round exits. Either way, I’m excited for some October baseball 😎

Harvey’s Wallbangers of 1982. Great team led by MVP Robin Yount that lost in 7 games to St Louis (the World Series of beer.). Good luck this year.
 
Fantastic baseball playoffs. Dodgers-Phillies ended on a terrible play with the pitcher panicking and throwing wildly to home instead of to first. That appears to be a lack of coaching- a throw to first usually has more time with the runner going to first.

Tigers - Mariners had the longest deciding playoff game in history last night with Seattle winning in 15. A hit batter proved fatal to Detroit in the 15th - perhaps there needs to be another column after Runs, Hits, and Errors for “Pitcher’s Errors” to total show Walks and Hit Batters since these are the unseen items (like offensive line play in football) that have a huge effect. Then again, maybe I just want another column on a spreadsheet…

Cubs at Brewers tonight. Game 5 - win or go home.
 
Here we go: Dodgers-Blue Jays World Series Game 1.

Last time the Blue Jays were in the World Series, the Marine Corps color guard brought out the Canadian flag upside-down. I would think that will not happen again.
