I know this guy who wants to join the military as officer through OCS and fly aircrafts but his problem is he has ADHD. Although his case is not bad, he does have to take medication. I was wondering have anyone of you'll guy heard of any officers or even pilot in the service with this disorder.

Once again this site ROCK!!!

It might be helpful. He'd never have to worry about fixating on any of his instruments under IFR :icon_tong

Chronic Axis I mental health disorders are considered disqualifying. The NOMI waiver guide generally requires the patient to be asymptomatic and off meds for 12 months before a waiver will be considered.

I was diagnosed with ADD as a kid (not full-blown ADHD) and was on meds until high school. Waivered with no problem. I had a letter from a pediatric neurologist saying he didn't think it would be an issue, plus NOMI wanted to see my treatment records. But it went through and I'm winged now.

I'm not a doc, but my opinion is that this disorder is overdiagnosed in general, and the Navy would be doing itself a disservice if they threw out every kid whose mom put him on meds because he was bored in school and didn't want to do his homework. That said, if you need Ritalin or its equivalent as an adult to function as a normal member of society, I don't think you have any business in a cockpit.

I was diagnosed with ADHD in 4th grade. Thank god my mom kept me off meds. It's in my record, and NOMI had no issues with it. But I have never been on meds.

ABSOLUTELY .... I'm no Doc, either .... but instead of medicating we need to beat our children with increased frequency .....

It helps them to focus on their homework .... :)

Did you ever see the southpark episode where the kids claimed that they had ADD to get out of their homework? If you haven't,
a youtube clip. It's great.
