I looked all over before posting but could not find anything on the subject. At any rate, I am currently an 0-2 in the AF (soon to be 0-1 ) :icon_smil I got into the military to be a leader, but as i am an engineer, it doesn't look like that will happen until (at best) I get to Major. I am looking into the Marines because I want to "be all I can be" (J/K!) Seriously, I think very highly of the marines and it looks like they can provide me with the opportunities I feel I need to serve my country.

I was wondering if anyone knew of someone who interservice transferred into the Marines and about that process. Would I go to OCS then TBS or straight to TBS? Can I still be guaranteed an aviation slot (I know the "aviation promise" is a slot.. I have to earn my wings of gold)

Also, I called the OSO here in OH (I am at Wright Patterson AFB) but it is just a recording and have not received a return to my call.

So many questions... hope someone can help!

I know that is possible, but only a few a year are able to make the transfer, all Marine Officers have to go through TBS, all those who transfer might have to go through OCS also.
Yeah, about that OSO in Columbus, you have to keep calling them or you'll never talk to them. OSO's are always busy.

Just remember, the OSO can't really help you until you've finished your obligated time-in-service and have been released from active duty, (I guess like the Corps, your obligated time depends on what commissioning program you came in through).

The Air Force is currently in a "Force Shaping" transition (reducing size) so I could get out of the AF now and transfer into the marines. (One guy in my division has gotten the ok to go to the army)

At any rate, can I get a guaranteed slot out as the college/OCS guys do? I haven't been able to find a recruiter who knows. (One sent me to the OSO, I called the OSO's office and they said they did not deal with this type of thing) so confusing.

Thanks in advance for the help.

War were declared.
Well then the OSO should point in the direction of the guy that does "deal with this sort of thing". Remember that getting into the Army (as that guy in your division did) is going to be alot easier as the Army is in dire need of Officers and Enlisted. The Marines aren't as hard up.

If you did a transfer you would just need TBS, it would be kind of like what the navy is trying to do with the jet guys.

Something you might look into is a prior service recruiter. They understand the in's and out's of the type of questions you have.
