A Rather Stupid Question

True, actually. The rationale was that the military members were not being objective and letting people cheat on the test.

Which proves my earlier statement. Obviously there are some good people in the AF with the right priorities, but the organization itself has issues. To wit - they can't/don't trust their NCOs and Os to administer PT tests (despite their primary stated core value, "integrity first"). Instead of holding people accountable they outsource and perpetuate the cultural flaw. No way the Marine Corps or even the Navy would stand for that.

Does that alone constitute "warrior ethos"? Clearly not but it is indicative of what you can expect from the culture. The AF serves its purpose but its DNA leads to more discussion of management than leadership, it's simply not a "warrior" culture.

Yeah, because nobody in the AF has a warrior ethos.
If anyone truly thinks that -- I suggest reading:

It's about leadership: and I cannot really 'blanket recommend' senior leadership in any of the Services at this moment as being representative of profiles in courage OR promoting martial values (I guess they call it 'warrior ethos' today :)) -- but there's always some exceptions to any statement, including this one -- please see USMC in the Yellow Pages for an example ...

The reason I ask is I am currently trying to decide between the choices listed above. The difficulty of this choice is compounded by the fact that I am also having a tough time deciding between fixed and rotary wing. The long and short of it is I enjoy flying, but don't know which would be the best aviation option to get involved in.

I would appreciate any and all insights/advice you can give me.

You also don't know where you are going to excel or struggle, and what types of military flying that you will enjoy. My best advice is to not try and game the system in advance, apply to the service that you feel is the best fit for you, and then see where flight school takes you. If you go Army, yeah you can pretty much count on helos. Aside from that, you just have to play the game and do your best to figure out where you fit into the big puzzle.....and more importantly, which puzzle piece the military needs to you fill. I would *highly* recommend not choosing a service simply on the basis of wanting to fly some particular platform....the odds are not in your favor there.

I read Baseops also and to me those guys seem very bitter. I know Huggy and Hacker are there so maybe its just me. When I come to AW the Navy/Marine pilots seem happier. Anybody who reads both care to make there observation? Hacker/Huggy care to chime in? I understand that everyone has a different perspecitive on life in the military.

Realistically you're getting a small piece of the pie in either forum. I'm sure there's douchers and cool dudes on each side. But if you must know, and A4s will agree with me on this.... Air National Guard guys are by far the coolest out of everyone. Believe it:)
