$9 Cheap Seats on JetAmerica and other cattle car stories ...

I got excited when I saw this because it reminded me of RyanAir and EasyJet, which I flew often when I lived in Europe. Both low-cost airlines, and both pretty awesome (for the most part). I've been hoping for a similar airline in the US. Maybe this one will eventually become like them and make travel within the US more affordable and accessible... I'm cautiously optimistic.

My 1st thought: Huh? A business model that flies people from smallish cities to others where no one much wants to go?! I hope they'll be well-capitalized, as 737-800's cost about $75MM apiece.

Imagine the clientele. Even Greyhounds can't keep smelly homeless guys and nasty drug dealers off of their buses with their cheap fares. At $9 a seat, ANYONE can get a seat. Sorry for sounding like an elitist, but that's not a good thing.

Yeah, well. The Dude abides.
Great, another Skybus. Except Skybus flew to some nice cities. JetAmerica flies to Toledo fricking Ohio :icon_boxi

I think anyone who's ridden a Greyhound understands your point.

I had one Greyhound bus experience and it was the most unpleasant 3 hours I've ever spent travellling. I went from Albuquerque to Farmington to look at Mesa flight training when I was 18. The dude next to me smelled terrible and it was a packed bus with nowhere else to sit.

Skybus was absolutely terrible. They cancelled a flight on me for maintenance and couldn't offer me another flight for 3 days since the two flights before mine had also been cancelled. They offered no vouchers of any kind, so I ended up around $500 out of pocket for a hotel room and two last minute tickets out the next morning on a real airline. I celebrated when they went under.

This is SkyBus partII.

So, like RyanAir, but crappier.

I have a long history with Greyhound. Each and every time I got on one of those damn things, something crazy or f-ed up happened. Each and every time I got off of one of those things, I swore it was for the last time.

Define misery: a 29-hour busride from New Jersey to Central Florida next to a guy who carries his luggage in a black trash bag and smells like diarrhea.

Needless to say, I have not and never will complain about airport security or delays. Ever.

Ah, for the days when aviation was a gentleman's pursuit, back before every Joe Sweatsock could wedge himself behind a lunch-tray and jet off to Raleigh-Durham.

That wasn't too long ago. I remember in the early 90s they were serving a nice steak to me in coach class.

Ah, for the days when aviation was a gentleman's pursuit....
When I was a kid, ALL the gentlemen wore coats/ties/hats and the ladies wore dresses ... flying was a BIG deal. It was special .... :)

One of my airlines would do a Chateaubriand dinner (carved at your row/seat) w/potatoes & vegetables and wine that rivaled the fare at many fine restaurants -- seriously.

All the while seated in your fresh-from-Argentina leather seats .... :)
