Seemed rather lukewarm to me. Of course, there's not much he *can* do, other than what he did at the beginning at the speech, which is to berate Congress.

I was wondering how quickly this thread would show up. I myself was hoping for a "wow" moment. Sure I had my "right on" moments, but I thoughts mostly everything was very predictable.

Not that it will actually happen but I was interested to hear about his proposal of transferring educational assistance that isn't used by the servicemember to their familymembers. Is this a new proposal or just one that I missed somewhere in the past?

I just wonder who the Marine was that shouted out the "OORAH" 3 seconds too late at about 46 past the hour.... Plain as day at the end of one of the standing ovations about the war and veterans.. Classic.

I can't really think of a good reason not to implement this. I paid in for my MGIB, but if I don't use it or the Navy pays for PGS, why can't I pass it on?
Army folks can pass it to children I often wonder why Navy cannot. COurse Marines officer get Loan repayment too and Navy does not. I believe it is just a good indicator they Navy really is not hurting for Officers.

He got an evil stare from the Vice President for that one.

I watched the response afterwards and felt like she didnt really say a damn thing. Except for asking the President to join "her" and "them" several times.

It's kind of ironic that our relatively young government has become so staid and "court etiquette"-ish on these official functions. Ever see the House of Commons debate anything on C-SPAN? Those guys feel free to cheer, boo, make comments from the peanut gallery, whatever. And the Italian parliament has elected former porn starlets!
