Not opposed to corporal punishment necessarily (maybe a bit)...but I will say I got 3 'licks' in the hallway as a 7th grader from a woman who believed the moon landings were faked by Hollywood...so there's that. I probably deserved it, but I have questions about people like this entrusted to...

    CMV-22B Osprey Rollout

I do vaguely recall that T-34 red stripe and SNAs being used as platoon commanders during the "surge". During that time, I was busy being TAD'ed out of the FRS to a deploying squadron IOT get that 3rd star on the sea service deployment ribbon as an O-3...good times. Agree with your comments on...

    CMV-22B Osprey Rollout

I guess that was during the AFG surge... God bless those dudes, but it must have been some whiplash for them to be redirected to IOC with a follow on tour to a BFE reserve infantry unit as an 0-1 platoon commander. Edit: Or was that without going to IOC?

    CMV-22B Osprey Rollout

How is IOC a "good deal"? Unless you have a hard-on for field ops in Quantico after TBS, I'd go with the beach option IMHO.

That's good to hear. I'm far removed from secondary education policy,..so definitely no expert...but, I've always thought that there should be more avenues for kids to pursue in HS beyond just prep for going to college (and getting a BS degree and mountains of debt).

As a 7th grader in the 80's, I remember shop class (Don't remember car maint included in our syllabus), but it got balanced out with a few weeks of "home economics"...I'm sure great info, but not for a 13 yr old boy. โ˜บ๏ธ

You're absolutely correct. The command's response to: was to vacuum up all the rounds from the squadron. Everyone was like WTF? We're in the fucking desert in Iraq with no bullets? A basic knee-jerk reaction.

I'll relay some observations (from a guy, as a 10 yr old, who shot a hole in the family TV with a.BB gun rifle while whole family was in the room watching Sunday football...I thought I was dry firing) -1st deployment to Iraq: E-4 shoots a hole through meaty part of his palm, while trying to...

That CO got set up by his MA. I'm sure he's great at what he does, but how the F does this happen during a PR photo shoot...not the end of the world, but jeez I'll say this (every Marine a rifleman), I've seen some stupid shit on deployment WRT small arms handling from aircrew. If you're...

Despite the coffee selection, this meal looks like something an LHD culinary crew would whip up for a lunch hit, when i was in. Rice dish, maybe a soup...something really easy to eat from a cockpit. We didn't have a tray either god dang it. ๐Ÿ˜„

    Promoting from O-1 to O-2

The coin of the realm is probably getting your rank updated on the GAL. You should update your Auto-signature with a pithy leadership quote underneath your NIPR address now. ๐Ÿ˜† No, just kidding, glad you got it worked out.

    CMV-22B Osprey Rollout

Yep. A C-9 out of Cherry Point transported the HQMC manpower weenies every year on the fall "roadshow". It was probably a month det for the C-9 crew, but viewed as a good deal. It started with hitting all the far east (Osan, Iwakuni, Okinawa) bases, with refueling at Wake Island and Guam...

Last post on my threadjack. If you're interested in the full vid from around 1990, here it is. The story behind how it came to be is wild (basically a local PBS documentary filmmaker in search of a famous mountain dancer...then he stumbles upon Jesco).. it aired in WV, and then spread on the...

That happened to our whole squadron. Our admin chief screwed up the orders for a 2 week pre deployment exercise in 29 Palms, and I think it only affected the E side. Bottom line, they were overpaid 2 weeks of per diem they didn't rate. It was found out about a month after returning to home...

That's a lot of "must plugs", with potentially no good diverts. Sporty stuff.

    Navy Dedicated SAR Squadrons

Yeah, I wasn't contradicting any of your points...I was just pointing out the downside of pursuing an IST to the CG at year 16-17 of AD service. TBH, I don't think the CG would accept a transfer with that service profile. They'd want a dude a little less long in the tooth (TIS wise).
  25. JTS11

    Navy Dedicated SAR Squadrons

I'll just say this. I think you'll think about it differently as you approach your MSR, getting close to 20. Do you really want to take a pay cut, and be the "new guy" at that point? Maybe so, just pointing out some realities. There is a lot of info on this site about pros/cons of different...

    Navy Dedicated SAR Squadrons

That's how I remembered the IST program with the CG. As an 0-3, you'd do a penalty turn as an O-2. Maybe it's changed, I dunno... The one dude I know that got the CG IST wasn't excited that his Top 5 duty stations request wasn't honored, and got assigned to Detroit. Damned CG detailers!๐Ÿ–•๐Ÿ˜„

    NEWS Key Bridge - Baltimore

Interesting fact about the increase in size of container ships over the last 50 years. I assume there are mitigation measures that can be put into place with a new bridge to prevent a catastrophic failure, compared to the old bridge that was completed in the 70's. (I know nothing of bridges...

Yeah, my only frame of reference is military mishap and JAG reports. As a non-FW former pilot, this may come across as a dumb question...but is the E-2 more of a pig to land on the carrier because of the radar dome? Or, are C-2s similar? Just curious

    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

C'mon man. I never told anyone that, and no monitor/detailer would either. They've got better bedside manners than that...๐Ÿ˜† However, at some point it gets down to brass tacks. Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

I think this is good advice; however, I will add some caveats or a counterpoint from the detailer perspective. In theory, the detailer should have a global and dispassionate view of staffing billets. In theory. Meaning, there may be a demand signal for MOS X with certain quals. Those billets...
