    USN Lewd Callsigns = bad!

I guess if you're dead set on drawing sky dongs, this is the airframe to do it with. A lot of plausible deniability, at least initially. πŸ˜†

CG has mad skills to worm their way into a mountain flying course with an instructor billet. Deep respect. All those DOT jokes from when I was in API fall flat now.

That tracks with what I know/knew (non STEM, state college business degree). The 53-E was engine limited, unless operating in frigid temps where you could hit torque limits. At MGW, a lot comes down to preflight planning and updates in flight. Our community got better when I was in after some...

Will I be DQ’d if I go to the doc one month out from OCS for knee pain after running?

Have you tried Vicks VaporRub? In the old days, it was an elixir that cured everything. Maybe follow it up with some Robitussin.

OK, this is kind of funny and a good troll. Ukranians leaving reviews of Kursk restaurants. One example. https://x.com/DevanaUkraine/status/1823021195144339732?s=19

    NFO Blueprint / Advice

The conventional wisdom has always been that you have to be good at 2 parts of that 3-legged stool to succeed in squadron life. I think it's probably true.

    Europe under extreme duress

We were never at extremes in our operating areas. I believe that the gouge was that the tandem rotor system of a -47 was more efficient at high DA's (maybe a smart guy like @IKE can weigh in) Never got to go, but the Army runs a mountain flying course in Colorado, that was highly respected...

Nope, never went. IIRC it was probably like 50/50 if you got sent while you were in the training pipeline. That was early 2000's. Not sure what it's like today.

I somehow managed to not go through SERE school while waiting for Primary, just luck of the draw I guess. I will say that as a 3 pump FRS IP senior O-3 contemplating getting out, my OpsO and XO totally fucked with me about me having orders to SERE school. For a hot second, I was resigned to...

Griz, you're discounting the bennies that comes with the purchase of a workhorse like this. I mean if you pull up thirsty at Imperial, you're getting a few pizzas and some Gatorades. It brings down the cost of doing business. πŸ˜†

TBH, I don't know what they did with the 53-D's. I assume they were put in the boneyard. Israel and Germany fly a version of the light twin 53, but have no clue if those birds were cannibalized for FMS. Once the E's go out to pasture, maybe they could be repurposed for forrest fire fighting...

    Anti-Blue Angels OP-ED πŸ‘Ž

I worked SeaFair in '14. I'm pretty sure this asshole writes the same op-ed every year. You're correct though, he was probably one of the few flight docs that nobody liked. In my experience, they were well liked and integrated well, but there were a few exceptions.

I believe there was still P-3 presence there in the late 2000's, but I could be wrong. The reserve -53 squadron moved next door to Lakehurst after the closure. .cool blimp hangars there. Edit: JB McGuire is more accurate I guess.

Possible, but doubtful. He'd never trust that setup. He's paranoid as shit, and I guarantee you there are folks with scores to settle. He'd never give up his state security service protection apparatus. It's the dictator's dilemma.

Yes, will be interesting to see how it plays out. For the most part, I believe UKR has the upper hand in operational design. The fact that RUS was seemingly caught flat-footed tells me something about their Intel, and a basic hubris that nobody would dare seize any of their territory in war...

Interesting piece from a retired AUS army 2-star regarding the UKR offensive into Kursk, and what their objectives may be. All things MV-22 Osprey

From a -53 perspective (3 engs and 2 Nose Gearboxes that fed the MGB) , if you got a chip light, you'd scan for secondaries (temps and pressures). If there were secondaries, you'd shut down that motor; if not, you'd pull and reset the CB to clear the fuzz and see if the light returned. If it...

    Random Griz Aviation Musings

Yeah, I'm not sure why the use of an HF radio died in the -53E. Seems like a useful capability in certain situations. Instead, it became a big vestigial organ of a big antenna on the fuselage, and hogging space on the lower console. Seeing as how none of them worked. I guess there wasn't a...

    Random Griz Aviation Musings

It wasn't a normal process, but it was good knowledge to get a motor started if you needed to. You'd MAF it and post-flight, a maintainer would slightly bend something to make the starter button make contact with the switch. The -53 also had an HF radio that was never used while I was in, and...
