    Many ChemE's in NUPOC?

Nukes are something that the Navy is always looking for. Don't let the recruiter fool you though, just because you're well qualified for OCS, being a Nuke officer is a tough job, you'll work long hours and have a ton of responsibility as a JO. Good luck, as a chem-e guy you should grasp the...

    PRK Future

It's all timing too. If Big Navy deems that they currently have too many pilots/NFO's, they could (and have) changed entry requirements, which can range from grades in API to physical requirements to whatever. In my experience, hope for the best, plan for the worst, nothing in the Navy is...

The heat and humidity at OCS

Curious, when she was learning how to walk, did you hold her up by her hands over her head and lead her along? From what I understand that can be a contributing factor.

    Aviation at USNA

During Plebe year....not a whole lot of time to do much of anything. You will have some time off on Saturdays, but not a lot. http://www.usna.edu/FlyNavy/team.htm, I knew a lot of guys on the team when I was still there. I guess it's not looking too good for it right now though, although that...

The heat and humidity at OCS

I don't know how it is for you up north, but I lived in Monterey for a year before heading to API last year. 12 months of pt'ing in 65 degrees with 20% humidity didn't prepare me very well for the heat and humidity of P-cola (aka, it kicked my butt for the first few weeks). You'll adjust quickly...

Moving woes ** let the mover beware

Bubba, I've done it several times so far and each was a partial-DITY. If you don't have a lot of stuff, i.e., it'll all fit in the back of a tow U-Haul, I'd say go that way. I have a lot of crap so I always do a partial, usually take my guns, important papers, stuff like that. I'll let the...

    Navy Armed Helo

I've been following the NAAD thread about the dets in Kuwait and what not, but I was curious if there is any new info on how the armed helo concept is coming along. All I can find is stuff on how the helos have been going through testing at Pax River, but are any actually being employed in an...

Anthropometric issues (are you too big or even too small or...)

Those days are over. Now it's based entirely on measurements. If you are out of limits you'll be dq'd from that pipeline (obviously), but the wording of the anthro procedures says waivers "should" not be considered, not that they "shall" not be considered. So, it is possible to get a waiver...

    Drive from CA to Pensacola

Oh yeah, I did 40 west to California, then 10 back from California to P-cola. I'll take west Texas over OK any day. They were doing a good bit of road work when I went through TX with new asphalt and all so it may be different if it's been awhile since you've been there.

    Drive from CA to Pensacola

I dunno about 40, it would be cooler temperature-wise than deep south Texas, but the freeway through Oklahoma absolutely sucks. If you really wanna go on 40 I'd recommend getting off of 40 at Amarillo and then angling southeast on Hwy283. I can't remember the actual number of the road, but it...

    Glock 22

Glad to see someone else doesn't like Glocks, for pretty much the same reasons I don't. Not a popular opinion where I grew up. Oh yeah, don't get me started on what an awesome cartridge the .357 Sig is. Essentially a .357 magnum in an autoloader version. Love it. :D

    Glock 22

I've never been a big fan of Glocks, they are good weapons (obviously), just never had a desire to own one. What I would recommend is an H&K, I absolutely love every gun in their line. Little bit more costly but worth it in my opinion, they all handle great and shoot even better. To avoid too...

S3b, you'll get 10 days of reimbursable expenses to stay in a hotel after you check in to P-cola. Don't worry about staying in the boq unless you really want to. That should be enough time to find a place to live. Check out craigslist.com and militarybyowner.com, both some decent sites for...

www.crossfit.com, I love it, my overall strength has gone up quite a bit, and I've been lifting for years. Just throw in some running 4-5 days a week on top of the workouts, you'll be absolutely golden. Their forum has a good area on nutrition too.

    Beedy-eyed Cannucks!

Actually, no, I was a dual citizen with the Netherlands and the US when I enlisted (born over there, dad in AF) and all I had to do was say, under oath, that I denounce my Dutch citizenship and only claim US citizenship. I did that in front of my Chief and div-o, and it was for joining the nuke...

Parker: D.C. Petition for Rehearing of Gun Ban Case Denied

Amazing. Hopefully it'll get to the courts soon. I think that the majority of the Justices on the bench right now feel strongly about the individual right. I have a feeling that if it does get accepted for review that Justice Scalia will have some strong influence on this case. Just my...

CITGO no longer NEX gasoline contractor?

Yeah, talking about how rich or lean the mixture is just increases the variables in engine performance. I'm a fan of tweaking the timing (I learned it the old school way of doing it by ear, freaks the guys out at the auto hobby shop :) ). As for enrichening the mix, I'm not a big fan of that...

CITGO no longer NEX gasoline contractor?

The higher octane gas actually burns slower and can withstand higher compression ratios before self-igniting than a lower octane gas. That's why if you use 87 in a motor that needs at least 93, it'll burn too fast and possibly self-ignite (a.k.a. dieseling) causing the knock you were talking...
  31. insanebikerboy

CITGO no longer NEX gasoline contractor?

Actually, for certain "import tuner types" a higher octane results in better performance. That's because they build their engines with a higher compression ratio which requires higher octane gas for better performance. With max pump octane ranging from 91-94, that doesn't quite use all the...

    Academy or NROTC?

Service requirements are the same regardless of what path you take. It's 5 years after commissioning. If you accept an aviation slot, it's 8 years from date of winging, so in reality you'd be looking at about a 10 year commitment from date of commission.

Right to Keep and Bear Arms

I'm confused by your post. Are you saying that the Bill of Rights are simply to limit the powers of the federal government? Problem with new AR build.

How does it react when you pull the charging handle all the way back? You said it happens only when you pull it half of the way back so the full strength of the spring may not be coming into effect. Couple that with the fact that it's brand new and tolerances are probably really tight, that...

Tennessee votes to repeal ban on handguns in public buildings

That's one of the things about using your weapon in a self-defense case. However, if the ensuing investigation shows you were in the right then you should be good. The one case I've specifically heard about was the guy shot the intruder, the intruder sued, but the judge threw out the case...
